Turkish Troops, Terrorists Robbed Armenian Churches in Syria, Kessab Residents Say
By Siranush Ghazanchyan
(ArmRadio) - Residents of the Syrian town Kessab described vandalism by Turks in local churches, Interfax Religion reports.
“Kessab’s centers of Armenian culture - our churches - especially suffered from the actions of Islamists and Turks. When I came here for ministry after the town had been released, I saw bare walls remained from the once flourishing church,” the priest of the local Armenian protestant church Zhirajr Gazaryan shared, according to the Rossijskaya Gazeta Daily.
Akop, head of a Kessab Armenian family, said militants from Tunisia lived in his house during the occupation.
“Turkey played a great role in our troubles. When Jabhad an-Nusra invaded Kessab, entire divisions of the Turkish special operations’ forces rushed into the town together with Salafi. Local guards saved residents of the town from a new genocide of Armenians. They started a battle against bandits, which gave local people time for leaving the town,” Akop said. “However, when Turks seized the town, they brought here residents of their neighboring villages who loaded all valuable things we had in trucks, trailers, tractors, carts and just drove it to Turkey,” he explained.
About 200 residents from the Syrian town of Salma were driven to Saudi Arabia. No one has heard anything from them ever since.
“Salafis rushed into the houses and shot men. They just ordered women and children to turn away and then there were fire shots. Only old men and those who understood what was going on managed to survive and ran from the village to the valley. There were few of them. They killed almost all of us,” 78-year-old Harun Dijib said.
In 1909, during the Adana massacres, Turkish soldiers attacked Kessab. I was merely a boy then. They were 20,000 strong with Mausers and other artillery. The men of our town fought back, my father among them, with ancient hunting rifles. We lost 50-60 men before we fled. We returned 5-6 days later to find all our houses burned to the ground. It took us months to rebuild. In 1915, we were the last to be deported out of Kessab because we were Protestant. The American Ambassador in Bolis had apparently secured guarantees for our safety, but we were deported anyway. They took us toward Der-Zor—the interior Syrian desert. Our whole family: my father, mother, four brothers, two sisters. I was 20-21, at the time. We loaded everything we had on mules and horses and set out under armed guards. They took us to Meskeneh on the Euphrates river. Meskeneh was a huge outdoor camp where ten of thousands of Armenians had been deported—bit by bit they were sent to Der-Zor, to their death. We were there for awhile. We lived under tents along with a lot of others from Kessab. Most of the time we had nothing to eat. Sometimes my father would buy bread from the soldiers but they had mixed sand with the flour—so we ate this hard bread and sand crunched under our teeth. Meskeneh was a horrible, horrible place. 60,000 Armenians had been buried under the sand there. When a sandstorm hit, it would blow away a lot of the sand and uncover those remains. Bones, bones, bones were everywhere then. Wherever you looked, wherever you walked.

Is jihadist photograph called 'Our Youngest Hostage a hoax?
A photo released today, known as “Our Youngest Hostage,” which depicts a toddler sitting on the ground with rifles pointed at him, may actually be a hoax.
Those crazy jihadists.
The photo itself is supposed to have originated from the village of Kessab, located in Syria, which has been under the control of a jihadist group from Turkey since the March 21st invasion. While this jihadist group has not been identified by name, they are reported to have ties with Al-Queda. So what makes Kessab such a desirable target for jihadists? The reason behind the attack is that Kessab is a town of Armenian Christians. This poses as a double whammy for the town: first, because of the animosity for those of Armenian descent from Turkish citizens and secondly, because of the animosity for every other religion held by Muslims. Presently, the reported death toll in Kessab is 80. It is because of atrocities like this that make the picture of their youngest hostage seem all the more frightening. However there is a question about the photo’s authenticity.

The $64,000 question.
Many people have been questioning the photo’s authenticity with good reason. So is this photograph real or not? The truth is that this author cannot say for certain, however this author does believe that the photograph is fake. So why does this author doubt the authenticity of this picture? The answer is because, after running several searches on this picture, the author has not seen anything about it in the mainstream media. So far the only people to give this picture any press time are social media and internet blogging sites. A photo depicting a toddler with machine guns pointed at him, would have generated more press than it has. So why would this group circulate a fake photo like this?
A picture is worth a thousand votes.
While just about everybody will believe that these jihadist groups would do something as evil as point a machine gun at a toddler, this author questions whether or not this group actually released this photo. This picture would certainly delight all of the jihadist scumbags in the world, however there has been a large backlash from the Arab communities according to Raymond Ibrahim, the Arab blogger who first released this photo. There is a possibility that the photo itself was released by the camp of Bashar al-Assad, Syria’s current president. There are several reasons why Assad would release this photo. The first is to generate anger towards rebel forces that are fighting to unseat him as ruler of Syria. While this group is not known to be one of the factions fighting Assad, and is in fact not even from Syria, it is still a dissident faction. Another reason for Assad releasing this photo would be to justify his use of chemical weapons against his own people. Syria’s president has recently come under fire for launching chemical attacks using chlorine. Using weapons like these against rebel jihadists who would point machine guns at toddlers would help him not only justify his use of chemical weapons, but would also help him in the upcoming presidential elections that Syria will hold on June 3.

The truth is out there.
It is unclear as to whether the photograph known as “Our Youngest Hostage” is indeed legitimate. While it is plausible for jihadists to shoot a toddler, there has been no coverage of this from the mainstream media, and is instead only circulating on blogging and social media sites. Could this photo have been released by the jihadist group holding the town of Kessab hostage, or is this propaganda coming from Syria’s highest government official? This author does believe that eventually the truth will come out. Eventually it always does.
