Life is Beautiful
Chapter One
A lot can change in four years, and Kyle and Jessi have found themselves facing one of life’s biggest changes.

This one had a blue plus sign. The three before it had pink ones, and the ones before those had the classic pink lines. All variations bore the same meaning, one Jessi still struggled to comprehend, even with the result in her hands.
The final two tests were still in box, sat on the bathroom counter and waiting for her to take them, but even Jessi had to wonder if this “experiment” was worth taking further. This was the seventh test overall, the fourth brand, and roughly 3.25 days since the cashier at the pharmacy gave her that strange look. It could be safe to assume the scientific method had been exhausted, and a conclusion could be reached.
Eyes still on the blue plus sign, Jessi sat on the edge of the bathtub, a variety of feelings swirling through her mind and body, none of which were particularly pleasant. Something in her told her she should’ve waited for Kyle to come home before she started testing, but the rest of her knew the uncertainty would’ve tortured her. Maybe it would’ve been better than what she was currently feeling, or maybe it would’ve been worse, but it hardly mattered now. The choice had been made, and now all she could do was wait.

The sound of a knock at the door caught Jessi off guard. Mere hours had passed, her mind was still miles away, but still she rose from the sofa to greet this mystery visitor. Opening the door just enough to step outside if needed, she was met with the unexpected but not unwelcome sight of Nicole Trager.
“Hey,” Nicole greeted with a grin, “Thought I’d check in. Mind if I come in?”
Without a word, Jessi stepped to the side, holding the door for her as she entered the apartment.
“So, how are you doing? Holding up ok?”
