100 days of keto challenge: I’m not going to give up on any of it.
Q). Today, tell us how you cope with all the carb-y temptations you encounter. How do you turn down enabling friends and family members? How do you work through cravings?
A). I went keto 7 weeks ago now. I don’t get cravings anymore. Back when I did, I coped with them and offers of food in the same way: by reminding myself and others that if I continued to eat whatever I wanted casually, like it didn’t matter, I would end up insulin resistant and then diabetic. I’d have a decreased life expectancy and a higher risk of heart disease.
I quit smoking 10 weeks ago for the same reasons. In fact, all these positive changes come down to one thing. I have a four year old girl. The best, most funny and quirky and beautiful little daughter and I want to be around for a looong, looong time for her, if I can, and I want to set a good example while I’m here. That’s a huge motivator for me in my studies and my career ambitions. I want to make a good life for us. I want us to have good, stable lives and that means working hard for them. I’m not going to give up. I’m 7 weeks away from completing my bachelor degree, I have not had a smoke in 10 weeks and don’t miss it, I am working out and eating clean and reversing my insulin. I’m not going to give up on any of it.
Q). Talk about the food that has been the hardest for you to give up. Have you found an alternative keto-friendly recipe yet?
A). Hmmm… When I first began it was coffees. Yes, you can have coffee still but I mean fancy coffees. You know, mocha’s and Carmel latte’s and the like. Not that I had them often but that was the hardest- giving up milky, carb filled coffee.
I know that online, and on here, there are heaps of delicious Keto coffee recipes but I am not fussed. I have unsweetened vanilla almond milk with my black coffee and it is fine. Occasionally I will add cinnamon (it’s yum and it is good for stabilising blood sugar levels.) I have had coconut oil in before too and that is amazing but I only did it the once.
