I made a sketchbook today

> I prepared two Journals for September. One for Daily To-Do Lists and one for habit tracking and general goals and creativity (this one). The paper is one of the maannyyy that I'm reading and referring to for my thesis. The topic of my thesis, if we talk about a broader area, is Vibration Control in Buildings.

Arrival in Nara by Alt-J
FunFact- I made this little journal on my own using some white papers that were left from one of my previous sem notebooks. I used a normal thread for kettle-stitch binding method. I always use up the half-finished notebooks by either properly extracting the left over pages or getting rid of the filled pages (if they are lesser than the empty pages) And then I use these extracted papers by either just normally spiral binding them into another big notebook (or some new little notebooks) or binding them by thread
My second artist book ever! I’m hoping this can qualify for the areyoubookenough_red challenge on Instagram.
Sound on for the lyrics ;)
This is my second finished artists book, and was made for my best friends 18th birthday, during the week of love (before Valentines Day). The book is about 5 by 4 cm. The pages you see in this video have a secret pocket in between each flip of the page (the pages are tied together with black thread, continuing the line that leads through the whole book). Inside those pockets are mini pages, accessible by their tabs, each holding a memory or sentiment I share with my bestie. I forgot to get a picture of it, but when the book is stood on its side, the pages spread and the covers touch, creating a rainbow starburst look from the top view. In this video, you can also hear me singing along to the lyrics of Wicked’s “For Good” that run through the book as I flip the pages. It’s a voiceover, so it’s not perfectly lined up.
[ID: Video of hands unwrapping an artist book (a twist tie in the shape of a heart is taken off, and then the red, flower patterned cloth covering around the book is unwrapped). The rainbow kettle-stitched spine is shown to the camera before the hands flip through the pages while a voiceover sings the lyrics that are on the pages. After showing the lyrical pages, a small tab is pulled from a secret pocket in the book to show an extra page with writing on it. There are 8 tabs throughout the book. The hands then close and rewrap the book, pausing before taking it off screen.]
I made my own notebook/grimoire/book. It took me three days to make, and i made it out of a larger drawing book that was falling apart. I hand stitched the pages together and hand painted the cover.
Some pages from my book, Home.
Home is a place that begins to
shrink.
What was familiar becomes awkward,
what was tall becomes small.
Pillows and rugs, and spoons and mugs
become easy to break and
pack up and take
when you leave.
Everything becomes a squeeze.
Knees knocking in a tiny tub.
I used to be small enough to float,
But now my shoulders are cold and
there’s no room to wash my hair.
Home is a place that is special
but no longer fits.
held by a thread~
building on the work of emma parker who combines embroidery and papercraft to explore themes of memory and perceptions of self. parker describes her practice as an ‘organic response to .. emotional’ and works predominantly with materials that are ‘old, used and worn’ this book contextualises the struggles of identity formulation and a disconnect between the world within and the world without. the text throughout slowly breaks apart to reveal a new meaning of internal chaos and degredation.
part 20 of the made on monday project
hardback, cloth bound, kettle stitch, handmade pages, emboidered cover design
Finished this up last night before going to bed, but decided to take it apart and fix the edges. So much happier with it. This wouldn’t be fore sale, rather this is an example of the custom covers using comic market art. Cover art source from https://www.zerochan.net/full/2278686.
