Deside to make my (so far) designs for Cindy in each game!
Be prepare for me ramble over to explain some of the details.
Disclaimer: of course, that the way I see Cindy and that very logical for different people have different opinions and hcs. Just sharing my toughests about her.
Also, Cindy-focused post, children abuse and neglect will be discussed at some level.
Main thing is that i imagine Cindy have an extremely adorable appearance. That kind of child that adults will melt from her cuteness when they first see her. And then they will have some confrontation with her or will see her interacs with other kids(especially other girls she's targeting) and will be in kind of shock. "Looking like an angel acts like the devil" type. That why I always give her huge, bright blue eyes, with noticeable eyelashes and upturned nose. Beauty of course is a subjective, and it will be better if we as a society wouldn't put so much importance over it, especially on very young children, but I see Cindy as a child that very compatible with the western beauty standard. I also imagine her smaller compare to the other kids - a little shorter and thinner. I believe Cindy is extremely neglected. She might externally cared: with her pink clothes and pigtails. But i believe she don't get proper meals, health care, etc, and that influencing her physical development. Back to less sad headcanons, I love to give her tooth gap. First of because they are all 5 years old – they probably have tooth gap, missing teeth and stuff like that, similar to why I draw her with hai that slips away from her hairpins. Secondly i imagine Cindy having tooth gap also as adult, so I like to give her that tiny notaicble feature.
For the more artistic freedom, I (try to remember) to give her heart-shaped pupils. Of course she can't actually have ones, but i love to draw her with it. Cindy's motive, for me, is in some way her desire, desperation for love, To be loved and protected, and her wrong occupancy of what is love's meaning. I like to give it to her. Maybe in other arts it will work better as broken heart – but i really love to give her heart pupils in hints of her motif as I see it.
In a way, in kindergarten 1 Cindy's outfit is combined by what she herself chose. I imagine her with tutu pink skirt, unicorn t-shirt and cheap colorful beaded necklace. Kind of the way little children usually see something being pretty or fancy – as much as you can carry and glitters. I think i mentioned it before on previous posts, but i see Cindy as little girl who like very girly coded stuff, so of course she will love unicorns.
I must admit that for me Cindy is very mary-jane shoes child. That how i imagine her first. However she HAS some kind of sneakers in the first game. I don't remember who it was, and I'll gladly give the credit for them if they will ask, but i saw someone suggesting Cindy having that kids sneakers that flash while stepping, and from then i can't imagine her sneakers different from that. I also imagine those shoes still very girly-sh, pink coloured and with hearts over them.
I always imagine kindergarten 2 be more high-society related. And I believe Cindy's mother, who is like to potray her self as good and caring mother, will put extra effort in her child's first impression to school staff: doll-like dress, more elegant shoes, new tights, and of course pigtails with cute ribbons. Does she spend the time to make her child meal to take with her? Give her some money to buy lunch? No, but she makes sure her child would look amazing because for her that what's matter. And that point of view effect her child in the way she see the world, but that for a different post.
Cindy's outfit in kindergarten3 return to be little more simple, still very cutesy, but less fancy, maybe more fit to play and run around, as it's should be for outfit for a kid. I LOVED her jumper dress. It's so cute. I also love to finally use flowers themed in her outfit except of the hairpins. I think it's really suits Cindy to have flowers in her outfit. Her clothes are in darker shades – I checked, and it's actually seems that the color of her clothes very similar to her sprite in kg2, but I decide to still go for the more darker shades, combine with her facial expression being grumpy instead of the bratty smile I always give her.
I not a huge fan of how Cindy was portrayed in kindergarten 3. For me she's feel grotesque and not very similar to how I take her from the previous games. She was different. No longer looking for boyfriend as she always do, much more violent and taking acts on her own hands instead of sending some boy to do it for her. She still one of my favorites, but I have some opinions on how she's been writed. But I decide to take those things and reflect them on her design in kindergarten 3: less light bright, darker shades instead. No more mischievous smile, but angry expression. I can't actually blame her: she's a little kid who has to move to 2 different schools day after day. That little child, and all the other children deserves to finally have a break and actual decent kindergarten experience. Somebody save them all.
You have to understand I work with THAT on those designs
Such a stressful experience
