@astoryofalove Nomura said: KH is not canon in FF. And confirms that T/ifa is Cloud’s light. He was going to put a CT part, but he remove this, supposedly so that we think more about it
cOnfiRmS THaT TifA Is ClOud’s ligHt
Then why isn’t Tifa in the credits with Cloud in KH2.8??? Y’all don’t get to ignore this then stir up fights.
reminder: kh 2.8 confirmed aerith is the “princess” of the ff series
Nomura: “We need to show fans that Sokai/Rokunami are going to happen in KH3, guys. What do we do?"
SQEN staffer #1: “How about we show some romantic Disney couples to lead up to Sokai/Rokunami in the credits?"
Nomura: "Perfect! What couples should we include? We don't want to leave any ambiguity about it... We know how fans like to argue."
SQEN staffer #1: "How about Snow White & Prince Charming, Aurora & Phillip, Cinderella & Prince Charming, Peter Pan & Wendy, Donald & Daisy, and Mickey & Minnie. They're the classic love stories of Dinsey, no way will anyone try to deny that."
Nomura: "No. It's not good enough."
SQEN staffer #2: "We could also include Disney's renaissance love stories... Ariel & Eric, Jack & Sally, Tarzan & Jane, Hercules & Meg, Simba & Nala, Belle & Beast, Mulan & Li, Esmeralda & Phoebus, Aladdin & Jasmine... No way could anyone argue then!"
SQEN staffer #1: "But we can't use Jack & Sally or Tarzan & Jane due to copyright laws."
SQEN staffer #2: "...What should we do to ensure fans know we're hinting at sokai and rokunami love then?" :(
Nomura: "Let's randomly include final fantasy's two bestest platonic buddy-pals Cloud and Aerith. only their friendship will help convey that sokai and rokunami love each other."
KH 2.8′s credits has led everyone to believe that sokai is going to be confirmed in KH3 and if you look at the youtube comments, virtually everyone is either happy about it or raging over it... because they know what this means for SoKai (hint: it’s going to be canon).
So I don’t get why some people are acting like Clerith being included in those same credits means “nothing”? If the credits are confirming SoKai/RakuNami, then it’s also confirming clerith.
It’s that simple.
KH 2.8 Confirmed Clerith in 1 minute and 40 seconds
Saying Tifa is Cloud’s romantic interest or light in the KH universe makes absolutely no sense. If she was, SQEN would have definitely included her cut-scene with Cloud in the ending credits of KH 2.8. Instead, we saw Cloud and Aerith’s moment, the moment where Cloud promises to come back to Aerith.
These were not just random credits, either. Cloud and Aerith were specifically chosen to represent the FF love stories in the KH universe. They were in the middle of this romantic montage of 16 back-to-back Disney couples, including Sora and Kairi (their latest “main” power couple). The credits even ended with a long finale of SoKai moments... SQEN specifically chose to “confirm” SoKai by including them in this portion of the credits with every Disney couple ever made, but somehow people expect me to believe Clerith being included means “nothing”. Before this, CT used to say that KH1′s ending wasn’t romantic because not all Disney love stories were included, but now that they are, it’s not good enough?
No, if SQEN thought it was enough to confirm Sokai then it means the same thing for Cloud and Aerith, too (as well as RokuNami).
What else is the point of including Cloud/Aerith in this 1:40 long section of the credits that just so happens to be nothing but romantic couples?
Do you think that was an accident? That somehow this huge montage created in order to lead up to a SoKai confirmation in KH3 was overlooked by Nomura? That the devs slipped Cloud/Aerith in there at the last moment without Nomura’s approval?
No, SQEN specifically made this portion of the credits to build-up Sora and Kairi eventually getting together in KH3, It’s a tease, a hint. And like the 13 Disney couples before them, Cloud and Aerith were specifically chosen in order to convey to fans that a Sokai confirmation will happen in KH3. This automatically confirms clerith because SQEN is using their love to validate Sora and Kairi’s love story... therefore validating Cloud and Aerith’s love story.
Again, the credits main purpose is to show fans that Sora and Kairi love one another and that SQEN is leading up to a SoKai/RokuNami confirmation in KH3... and SQEN was able to convey this by utilizing the 13 Disney love stories + Cloud and Aerith.
They are the “veteran” love stories that SQEN used to validate their “newer” couples Sokai and Rokunami.
That’s why Cloud and Aerith are confirmed, because SQEN used them and every other Disney couple to confirm/validate Sokai and Rokunami.
Cloud and Aerith in the KH universe
The debate about "Cloud’s light” has been done a thousand times and I don’t really intend on rehashing old quotes that have been explored a thousand times already or giving my opinion about them.
Instead, I want to focus on the KH2.8 credits.
In order of appearance (starting from top left):
Snow White & Prince Charming (Snow White)
Aurora & Prince Phillip (Sleeping Beauty)
Cinderella & Prince Charming (Cinderella)
Ariel & Prince Eric (The Little Mermaid)
Donald & Daisy (Disney original)
Hercules & Meg (Hercules)
Roxas & Namine (Kingdom Hearts)
Cloud & Aerith (Final Fantasy series)
Peter Pan & Wendy (Peter Pan)
Simba & Nala (The Lion King)
Belle & Beast (Beauty & the Beast)
Mulan & Li Shang (Mulan)
Esmeralda & Phoebus (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)
Aladdin & Jasmine (Aladdin)
Mickey & Minnie (Disney original)
Sora & Kairi (Kingdom Hearts)
Those are the couples included in the romantic portion of the credits. The only two pairs missing are Jack & Sally (The Nightmare Before Christmas) and Tarzan & Jane (Tarzan), both which could not be included due to copyright laws. If we exclude those pairings, Square Enix still deliberately set up all 16 couples back-to-back, with Cloud and Aerith (the 8th couple shown) smack-dab in the middle of the montage. I can’t help but think that odd... Why are Cloud and Aerith the “middle” couple of the montage? Is there any significance to it?
To me, as much as I love clerith, I can’t help but feel like the placement of Cloud and Aerith’s moment is strange. It would have made much more sense to show Cloud and Aerith first, since Final Fantasy characters come secondary to Disney characters, and then all the Disney couples would follow, then finishing with RokuNami and Sokai—because those are the most important couples in the Kingdom Hearts universe. But instead, Nomura gave Cloud and Aerith the middle spot of the entire montage. My personal opinion is that Nomura strategically placed Cloud and Aerith in the middle of the montage in order to avoid any confusion about why they’re in the romantic section of the credits as opposed to the “nakama” section. Had Nomura placed Cloud and Aerith first, fans could have argued that Cloud and Aerith were not included in the romantic section but rather a part of the “friendship” section of the credits.
But because Cloud and Aerith came after six beloved Disney couples and one Kingdom Hearts couple (RokuNami), it didn’t exactly leave any room to argue about what kind of message Square Enix was trying to convey to their fans, especially since eight more romantic pairings were shown immediately after (including Sokai).
Square Enix’s message was heard loud and clear as fans in the Sokai and RakuNami fandoms rejoiced at the confirmation of their ships... Perhaps Square Enix knew this would garner this type of reaction from shippers... perhaps, it was what they hoped for. If so, that just makes the inclusion of Cloud and Aerith all the more special.
But another important aspect about these credits is the effect it has on the “Cloud’s Light” debate.
CT fans argue that Tifa is Cloud’s light, but if she was... why isn’t she the one shown in the ending credits instead of a Cloud and Aerith moment? Square Enix could have just as easily shown the moment between Cloud and Tifa, especially since fans claim Tifa is Cloud’s “light”. Doesn’t really make sense to show a Cloud/Aerith moment when Tifa is supposedly Cloud’s “love” and “light” now does it?
But maybe Square Enix ultimately went with Cloud and Aerith because they’re the only Final Fantasy couple they could show. Since Tidus was around Sora’s age and stuck on Destiny Island, and Yuna was a pixie aiding Sora in Radiant Garden, showing a romantic scene between them seems almost impossible to do. And although Squall does appear in KH, Rinoa does not.
With all other Final Fantasy couples separated by strange circumstances, Cloud and Aerith are coincidentally the only two Final Fantasy characters that Square Enix could use as the representation for Final Fantasy couples. I can’t help but wonder if this was planned years ago, as a way to draw attention to the tragic lovers instead of the other popular romance stories from the Final Fantasy series.
Then again, maybe Square Enix didn’t show the Cloud and Tifa scene because it is completely optional and not every fan is obligated to see the scene. Or maybe they didn’t show Tifa because Tifa is an “ incorporeal” being said to not “really” exist in the realm in which Cloud and Aerith live in. That could explain why Tifa doesn’t even appear in the credits of KH2.8 at all, not even in the friendship section... Which is strange since even Zack appears in the credits, while Tifa is nowhere in sight.
No matter the reason for Tifa’s absence, the facts remain the same. It’s rather strange that Tifa is supposedly Cloud’s “light” and “love” and yet she’s nowhere to be seen in such an important ending. The way I see it, if Square Enix intended to make Tifa Cloud’s light/love interest, then she would be seen with Cloud instead of Aerith.
The fact is, Square Enix and Nomura not only chose Cloud and Aerith to represent the love stories of the entire Final Fantasy series, but Square Enix chose a Cloud/Aerith moment instead of a Cloud/Tifa moment to b included in the romantic montage. That says a lot.
