The other final contestants in the search for Genkai’s successor. It's pretty rare to see fanworks with these guys, but they (and their eyebrows) really were quite powerful! Any one of them would have made a qualified (and probably more respectable) heir to the Spirit Wave.

Of the three I find Kazemaru the most interesting. He's a ninja who works as a private bodyguard for VIPs, and his Reikihou (Spirit Cannon) is already a similar technique to the Spirit Gun and Spirit Wave so he would have been a great fit as Genkai’s student. And he can emit powerful spirit energy while singing karaoke lmao (too bad he’s a terrible singer). I personally do think he had a fairly decent chance of defeating Randou were it not for Yusuke’s amazing dumb luck.

Alas, these three had the misfortune of finding themselves in a shounen manga and therefore had their butts kicked by two 14 year old punks and now nobody remembers them. Thus ends our cautionary tale.

(FYI warning: for those who don’t already know and go to look up these characters, please be aware that Kazemaru's design can make for really awkward conversation due to the Buddhist manji on his forehead. As you may have noticed, I turned his head here.)

TRIVIA TIME: Kibano

The edited english dub that was shown on Cartoon Network removed the cigarette and it was instead made to look like that Yusuke defeated Kibano out of pure luck.

The cigarette that was used to defeat Kibano belonged to Yusuke in the manga. Since Yusuke's smoking habits were omitted from the anime, the plot line was changed to where the cigarette belonged to Genkai that he found still lit on the floor, after she angrily threw at him at the start of the match for an insensitive comment
