Been a long time but finally been reading enough again to come out with another... Fic Rec Fridays!! This week's theme is: Kid!Fics! These are fics featuring kids as children of characters, and the characters as children themselves. I'm actually not that clucky at all in real life but I do love to read about it for heart-warming, fluffy, funny, feel-good stories, or to see what characters might have been like when they were younger. Synopsis Lucanis Dellamorte, CEO of Dellamorte Holdings, lost his wife in an accident three years ago. Since then he has been devoted to one thing above all others: giving Maya an ordinary childhood. Dinner made at home. Glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling. Dad at the school gate at the end of the day. He's managed most of it. Miss De Riva notices.
Grad’s ramblings This is one of my favourite on-going reads at the moment!! It features a quiet but determined single!dad Lucanis trying to juggle both his work and his little girl by himself. Rook in this story is Miss Evey de Riva, the kindergarten teacher who notices little Maya Dellamorte often spending the last hour of class waiting by the window for her dad, and takes it upon herself to give her some solace in the few little ways she can. Cue a series of incredible, moving little chapters that slowly let these lonely souls feel again, amidst quiet afternoons, pancake mornings, and nights under the stars.
Overall, this is such a wonderful, feel-good story and a quiet but powerful, slow romance between Evey and Lucanis. Lucanis here is incredibly sweet, gentle and kind, even if he doesn't often put it into words, and though he is struggling, he is trying so hard it makes your heart burn. His interactions with Maya, who is a spitfire and hilarious herself, are my favourite parts of this story (he is SUCH a good dad!!!) as well as the cute little activities the three of them get to do together. Evey is incredibly attentive and patient which makes the tension between her and Lucanis ever so delicious, and every scene between them just feels so calming and sweet and HEALING!!!

Synopsis Lucanis Dellamorte should be dead. So many times over. Fledgling to Crow, Crow to Master, Master to Demon and thirty some years of nothing but the job. Death has been courting him his entire life. (A Lucanis character study - from childhood through Inner Demons.)
Grad's ramblings Okay so this is not completely a kid!fic BUT it starts off with kid!Lucanis and it's DEVASTATING and it has burned itself into my memory. This is a character study on Lucanis but focuses on his childhood and upbringing from witnessing the death of his parents at five years old, and then the effects on his training as a Crow, the change in his relationship with his cousin Illario, and then how he faces death over and over again throughout his adult life. Death is a recurring motif in this story and for Lucanis Dellamorte, and he can never get away from it... until now.
Overall, just a very powerful piece of fiction that makes you ache for poor Lucanis and what he went through!! Lucanis as such a young child when all this happened was heart-wrenching and the sort of curse in his life about Death and how often he courts it is so impactful. I also really liked his bittersweet relationship with his cousin here, the shared trauma of their youth, their anger and their laughter and their love, and of course what it became by the events of Veilguard. Absolutely beautifully written, mildly traumatic (in a good way) but ends on a little bit of hope. Chaosherald never misses!

Synopsis After the fall of the Evanuris, after the Veilguard’s final stand, the world did not end. But peace? Peace was never meant for Lucanis and Rook. (A series of one-shots in the distant future featuring their six little girls).
Grad's ramblings For papa Lucanis feelings (and Zio Illario!!!!!) this is your fic!! This is a series of little vignettes and scenes from Lucanis' domestic life post-Veilguard and each chapter is a delightful little snippet filled with cuteness, fun, and love. Sometimes they feature all six of the girls, and sometimes just one, but all are just incredible adorable with tooth-rotting fluff.
Overall, it's just one of those perfect feel-good fics to read after a long day. It's wonderful to read about how parenthood changes Lucanis (some ways not at all, and some ways so much) and also how the girls affect their other loved ones: Teia and Caterina and their uncle Illario. It's always fascinating to think about how an after might look for these Crows, and how much love and forgiveness and new beginnings and family might change and grow with this next generation.
Viago de Riva’s Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by @genjyoandgojyoandhakkai | G | Complete 1/1 | 2,609
Synopsis It is 'Bring your daughter to work' day and Viago de Riva's strict and controlled, timed and calculated work day routine is upset by the sudden arrival of one young 9-year-old Isadora. Despite the lack of blood relation, little Isadora promises to keep up with Viago's very important, serious work anyway as his assistant CROW-in-training.
Grad's ramblings Okay so I may be a little biased with this one since it features my Rook as a 9-year-old but it's genuinely one of the funniest oneshots I've ever read. Set in the modern world in a corporate office environment where Viago's rules iron-fist with spreadsheets and schedules, a child following him around for the day gives a much-needed spark of brightness for not just Viago but the entire office too. Nothing gets one reflecting on their own idiosyncrasy more than a miniature version copying their every move ;)
Overall, it's a fun, easy read especially for those fond of a certain de Riva. The beginning scene which starts off with Viago's Sunday night routine (the most bizarre and ludicrous routine ever) had me in tears before we even got to his Monday morning. And the rest of the office day was just so incredibly, adorably sweet and funny, and I absolutely loved seeing Viago crack a little to a 9-year-old mini me. I've re-read it six times and I'll read it again.
