Do you read with your kids? 📖 I've only just started reading some short board books with my 5-week-old twins, but because I've been collecting picture books for many years, they already have a pretty impressive library of childrens' books to pull from as they get older. . . That said, one of the actions I've committed to, especially in light of recent events, is to make sure their books include a diverse assortment of characters, from diverse authors and illustrators. Browsing their shelves this week, I was pleased to see I've already got them off to a good start -- including these books by Black authors and/or illustrators, and featuring Black figures. But I know I can do better, so I've started a list of more such books to add to their collection. What was the last book that made you cry? 🦌 Okay, so, I cry at just about anything these days (thanks, pregnancy hormones), but I definitely got weepy reading this gorgeous book earlier this week. . . DASHER by Matt Tavares tells the story of the reindeer Dasher, and how she became the first reindeer to help pull Santa’s sleigh. It offers  a refreshing and unique take on the mythology of Santa’s reindeer, and I love that it’s rooted in a familiar history involving circus animals. It’s a sweeping, impactful story that reminds us that the at the heart of all the Christmas hullabaloo is love and family. It's also, quite simply, a beautiful book. (The illustrations! 😍) . . What's something ridiculous you've done for a bookstagram photo? 📸 I bribed my niece to help show off how ginormous this wonderful picture book from @candlewickpress is, and boy howdy, did that kid deliver. (I promised her candy if she let me take her picture, and then the camera came out and her cheeseball self emerged! "Cheese!") This ended up being one of my favorite photos ever! . . CITY is a gorgeous book that showcases the beauty cities have to offer: museums, buildings, urban parks, cafes, newstands, etc. It features such beautiful illustrations and being oversized makes it extra fun for kiddos to flip through on their own.
