“Of course.” The words were like glass in his throat. Smoke inhalation was a bitch. His brain felt slow and foggy, like it was full of smoke too. “Who shall I take them to?”

M lifted one white brow. “They’re for you, Quartermaster.”

Bond and Q are drawn together by names, work, and a certain Aston Martin. In which Q is kidnapped once, Bond is poisoned twice, and Eve is a badass on at least three occasions. AKA that time I tripped and wrote 80,000 words of 00Q.

Kidnapped!Q is about to be rescued! ...they think.

They were pulling out his fingernails, filming it of course, when there was a muffled thumping on the door. Q was too lost in pain to scream, but he was also too lost to hear what they were saying. He just knew that suddenly they stopped, and went away, leaving him slumped and sobbing.

When the pain ebbed enough to come out of his own head, he realized there were sounds of a scuffle outside. Gunshots. Someone screamed. Then--silence.

His breath was ragged and gasping, the only sound in here. There was shouting. Someone rattled the doorknob. He flinched. Then there was silence again.

Suddenly, the door jerked on its hinges. He jumped, and stared like a deer in headlights. And then--

The door banged open, and Eve and four other agents piled through, guns at the ready. Only after a thorough sweep of the room did Eve run to Q and put her hands on his face, gently.

“Oh god, Q,” she breathed, and kissed his forehead, before getting out her knife and cutting the ties holding his wrists to the chair arms. He immediately reached out, and she hugged him for a moment before helping him stand. He hissed and staggered; they’d only smashed his left kneecap yesterday, of course.

“Right. Knee. Come on, love.” Eve pulled his arm over her shoulders to take the weight off his leg and wrapped her arm around his waist, leading him to the door--

Where they were blocked by the main villain and seven of his cronies. The villain smiled nastily.

“Put him down, darling,” he purred, “Or I put bullets in both your pretty heads.”

00q fic recs: soulmate au pt 2

1. My thoughts, My heart, My soul by VarjoRuusu

Or: A year in the life of Q and Bond. An AU in which soulmates share a telepathic connection. Q figured it out months ago, but what does it take for Bond to finally realize that half the comments and conversations he's been hearing from Q are in his head, not over the comms? ONESHOT

2. Name on My Skin by therunawaypen

Everyone has the name of their soulmate written on their skin. And Q can't help but feel excited to learn that the James Bond written on his wrist is one 007.

It's a shame James doesn't know Q's real name. Things could have been simpler.

this fic is less than 1k words long but i feel that it really manages to have a nice beginning, middle, and end without feeling like things are missing or too rushed.

3. One for Malice by Flantastic

Familiars find their humans soon after their birth and are thought to represent that person's soulmate. Thomas 'Q’ Carter's parents never understood why their son attracted a large wolf like Beelzebub. Meanwhile James Bond has spent his whole life accompanied by his tenacious barn owl, Archimedes.

When James is sent on a simple mission to observe a man recently added to MI6's watch list, Lyutsifer Safin, he discovers that an ex-MI6 employee Q is being held captive by him.

James is ordered to get Q back to London, but he soon begins to believe that there is more to Q than meets the eye.

00q fic recs: protective!bond pt 3

1. Kissing it better by Beginte (@beginte)

“So how does a wunderkind boffin get shot?” he purrs into Q’s ear, and Q hums, amused.

“You can blame MI5 for that one.”

“I intend to,” Bond growls protectively, tightening his embrace round Q’s waist for a moment.

Q has a few small scars on his hands and arms from all his tinkering with prototypes, but one scar catches Bond's attention, and he makes inquiries during one lazy morning in bed.

ahhh bond being protective of q even though he knows he ends up fine is so cute. it’s a fluffy fic and has plenty of established relationship fluff for us to gorge ourselves on.

2. Home for Christmas by pretzelduck 

Bond never stays around MI6 for Christmas until something draws him back this time.

bond coming back in a tizzy because he heard q was injured is so sweet TT i adore how bond is written in this fic. he’s so perfectly human and perfectly vulnerable in the way he behaves that it’s absolutely lovely to read.

3. bloom on my skin, echo in my soul by Areiton  (@areiton)

He learns to live with it.

With the constant bruises, with the stabbing pain echoed in his body, with the scars that never last.

With the voice that rumbles with threat but never at him.

He learns to live with it and he learns to hide it.

Do you miss me? They whisper, sometimes, and he never answers, because he doesn’t know if it would be a lie or the truth.

the imagery of bond staying vigil at q’s bedside as he recuperates is so lovely in the way it was written. it’s a fantastically written fic and everything comes together so well.

1. oh mercy, i implore by sleeponrooftops (@sleeponrooftops)

Q wonders, briefly, how James could possibly think this is an appropriate time to profess his undying love—or whatever the hell it is he’s attempting to do; though, frankly, the skeleton suit did make him blink a bit stupidly at his laptop—but then something explodes to his left, and Q heaves a long-suffering sigh and snaps at him for ruining everything good in the world. James laughs and carries on wielding his Walther like it isn’t the 7500th replacement that Q has thrown at him.

Home, for James, was once a shoulder holster in a foreign country, women he didn’t know and regularly forgot, the London skyline outside his window, a martini shaken just right, and a suit so sharp, marks sometimes cut themselves on his edges. Home, now, is a person, is pizza after a long day, an entire cabinet full of tea, soft pillows and a warm mouth across his shoulders—it’s still London, but home is a flat he shares, a bed where he fights for blankets, the permanent indent of a book spine resting against his ribs, and he’s finally done running away.

ok this is the last fic in the series and the whole series is just so good i adore it with my whole heart. it is such a roller coaster, but it’s a well written and well planned out one. i generally hate reading long fics, but i read all 140k of this series in less than a day because it was so absorbing. ++ bamf!q also showing his kidnappers who’s boss

3. The One Who Made Him Stay by JayPendragon (@multifandom-madnesss)

Twenty-one days after the Double-oh programme is reinstated, James Bond returns to MI6 with his Aston Martin and without Dr Swann. This is only the beginning of Q’s problems.

it’s been such a loooong time since i’ve read this fic but i can remember every single plot point like i’ve just read it yesterday. q gets kidnapped once and another kidnapping is attempted but thwarted, and it’s all just so so good.

“Send your precious 007, before we rearrange the Quartermaster’s pretty face.”

Q smiled at the camera, even though it hurt his bruised cheek. “Memphis,” he said.

“Shuddup,” the man to Q’s right growled, smacking him upside the head, hard enough to jar the large lump forming where Q had been knocked out with a pipe. Q winced, but kept in his hiss of pain. They wouldn’t kill him--yet. Not if they wanted James.

Well, they weren’t going to get him. He’d been gone a full year now, and no one except Q knew where he’d even passed through, and Q only knew because of the postcards. The last one had been from a tourist trap at Memphis, Egypt. There would be some sign of James there, surely.

He did not bother hoping for rescue. He was dispensable. He’d been teaching R everything he knew, leaving her little clues, because he wanted to be the first Quartermaster to retire. He was barely thirty-six and he was tired. He was not fit to be Quartermaster.

The main villain was still making threats. Then he finished the video, sent it, and left the room. His cronies followed. Q sighed and glared up at the pipe he was suspended from. Well, he wasn’t quite suspended; if he stood on his toes, the strain in his shoulders and elbows and wrists eased. But then, of course, his feet and legs and abdomen started to hurt. He’d already tried bouncing the pipe, but it was firmly anchored. And the handcuffs were cutting into his flesh.

He sighed again. No, there was no getting out of it. He was going to be tortured unto death, and it was going to be because of James Fucking Bond.

No, that wasn’t fair. James hadn’t done anything except make enemies. It was just bad luck that they grabbed Q. Good luck for all the people James cared about, though. Out of all the people that could be taken hostage, Q was the best decision, because James didn’t care for him.

Why did that hurt? It was just a fact. He scowled and yanked on the handcuffs again, which did nothing except make them dig deeper into his skin. The pain distracted him from his emotions.

He settled again, and waited.

More Kidnapped!Q because fuck you that’s why.

“He’s never going to come, you know.”

The villain’s threats stopped.

Q smiled lopsidedly; his jaw still hurt from having a molar yanked. He’d screamed for that one. “They’re never gonna send a rescue,” he taunted, and he didn’t know if he was taunting the villain or himself. “I’m dispensable. You grabbed exactly the wrong person. You may as well kill me now.”

The villain’s face twisted into a snarl--and then abruptly smoothed into a grin. “How sweet,” he cooed, walking forward, his phone camera never leaving Q’s face. “To think yourself so unimportant that no one will mount a rescue. Well, I have news for you, Quartermaster; they’re sending one right now. And if Bond isn’t with them, well, we’ll just have to slaughter the lot of them.”

Q snorted. “You’re bluffing,” he said flatly.

“I assure you, I’m not. Would you rather we chain them up in here with you and let them watch as we pull you nails? I am not adverse to this.” The villain smiled nastily. “It will make the whole thing so much sweeter.”

Q was about to make a snappy retort when the villain suddenly straightened, tapped a button on his phone, and walked away. His minions followed.

Leaving Q alone and in pain for the eighth time in a row.

“They won’t come,” he whispered to himself firmly. “They’re smarter than that. They won’t come.”

In which there is a beating.

It began the next day.

First it was just stripping him to his boxers and punching him, bruising his skinny frame and possibly his organs as well. The main villain took a video of them force-feeding Q some vile-tasting sludge, talking all the while about all the things he was going to do to Q if 007 didn’t hurry up and fetch him. Some of them sounded... very painful.

But Q had been trained for torture, had learned how to take his mind far, far away from the pain (a useful tactic when he was being stitched up in medical and the numbing agent wasn’t working fast enough). He thought he could handle most of what they threw at him. He waited until they’d gone, leaving him still attached to the pipe via handcuffs, then vomited up all the sludge, and whatever had been left in his stomach when they’d abducted him. It was horrid, feeling his own puke drip down his chin to his chest, and not being able to rinse it out of his mouth. But he didn’t know what was in the sludge, and he didn’t trust it.

They must’ve had a camera, because not long after that two guards came in to wipe him off and feel him more of that sludge.

“You gotta piss?” grunted one of them.

Q nodded cautiously.

“Too bad,” said the other bluntly. The two of them left.

Q scowled, but said nothing.

He had never been without something to do for so long. Even at home relaxing he was tinkering with something, be it a cat-toy or a sentient toaster or a project from work. It was... disquieting.

Later they came in and beat him like a punching bag again. He did not cry out, not even when one of them broke his rib. He was far away, working on ways to improve the Amazon Echo.

The head villain filmed it again, laughing. “Alright, alright, enough,” he said, and the beating stopped. “Get him down from there. Check that you haven’t broken anything. Then we will leave him until tomorrow.”
