fursona reasoning below
I have a tidbit for your Nepo Baby Hiroaki hypothesis. In Japanese, "uzukidori" is an archaic word for the lesser cuckoo, which, like many birds from its family, is a brood parasite; it is deposited as an egg into other nests it does not "belong" to and is thus fed and nurtured by an unsuspecting parent, sometimes even evicting the "true" offspring. Hard to say if it's intentional, but I did find that interesting
Wait that's so interesting??? So if his surname being Uzuki is done with intent, it could be pulling from that as a subtle hint to him not belonging/being a parasite on the academy 🤔 You have provided me an excellent morsel of info dear anon tyty
So idk if anyone here's played the prologue for Kill Cure yet (if you haven't, I gotta recommend it, the cast is so insane but really fun and it has a pretty interesting setup) but I keep thinking about it, cuz like. And spoilers under the cut, cuz I really do recommend going in and playing it yourself
Hiroaki has to be a loser-ass nepo baby right? Like his whole setup at the beginning with the old Headmaster getting arrested, his familiarity with the inner workings of the academy, and his internal dialogue when talking about his talent and discussing admissions with the architect all SCREAM "nepo baby that doesn't wanna get caught." The type of rich kid that insists they're 'upper middle class' and 'don't even go on vacation that often' but get confused when their friends can't afford stuff because 'just ask your parents?'
This entire character description is like holding a giant sign that says "I Am Overcompensating" to me. It's so overemphasizing what a good hard worker that worked so hard he is and how all the places he went suffered economically when he wasn't there(almost as though he himself is the financial asset? Like his name is bringing in business). I need to know if these descriptions are written from the perspective of the character, seriously, because this is such an ego read
The dislikes being "boring jobs" and "false accusations" also reads to me like he maybe isn't the grand employee he claims to be. Sure, he's probably picked up a few skills or facts here or there, but his job-hopping is likely just him trying to find a skill he could claim as "ultimate", not liking it, getting bored, bailing over and over again, and then eventually just deciding to use the sheer volume of failed attempts as the title in and of itself. He did technically work all those jobs, so it's not like he's lying, right? Yeah, maybe he had a foot in the door, but they could've said no! He earned that, don't you get it? The poor rich boy just wants his accomplishments to be real! And that line of thinking to protect the ego is really in line with his defensive reaction to Naiomi's casual acknowledgement of the facts- his title comes not from skill, but from connection. Heaven forbid we say it aloud; people might just start to think it's true.
If this is the case, I think it's actually a really strong choice. It works as an interesting inversion to the previous protagonists from Danganronpa that've felt comparatively inadequate but were proven to be exactly what their class needed, like Makoto or Shuichi. Having someone who tries really really hard to be hot shit and fails every time? That's fresh, and I could potentially see a protag swap later down the line or even branching narratives with that kind of direction. It also blends really well with a cast of characters split almost down the middle by either being a public servant or an economic powerhouse; I get the sense that the question of what inherent human nature is is the question the game's setting up to pose, and a nepo baby twisting the narrative in his favor (and failing) would make for something I can tear apart with a knife and fork
Also hi has anyone else played the prologue for Kill Cure yet cuz my partner and I did and I have thoughts to share with the class
