WIP Wednesday

It's time! Here's a little snippet of post-TUBC chaos, the silly spin-off that my brain won't let me stop thinking about. I shared a bit during Six Sentence Saturday too, so here's a little more!

'It's a four day trek,' Davrin says. 'How about I give you a day's head start?' Rook scoffs at that. 'A day. Do you really think that little of me?' It's clear that he's getting under her skin – he has to admit that he's enjoying it more than he probably should. Old habits die hard, he supposes. 'What would you suggest, then?' 'Half a day.' 'Tell you what,' he grins. 'I'll give you the full day. If I catch you more than half a day's travel before you reach the end goal, I'll simply get a bigger reward.' She shakes her head. 'That’s too vague. It'll be my word against yours.' It's a little precious of her that she thinks it'll be a close call – still, clear rules to this game will only make his victory sweeter. He considers it for a moment, visualizes the area in his mind until he finds a solution. 'There's a river that can serve as a border. I’ll show you on the map.' In fact, it's a little further than half a day from their end goal, but Rook will need all the advantages she can get. 'If I catch you before you cross it, you're mine for a week. If I catch you after, only three days.' 'And if you don't catch me at all?' 'I'll be yours for two weeks.' She narrows her eyes at that, crosses her arms, studies him for a long moment. 'You're awfully confident.' It becomes harder and harder to keep his grin from moving into smug territory. 'Because it's not happening.'
