i think the biggest tragedy of marineford isn't ace's death, it's mihawk's moral dilemma. dude went to work and his advisor said kill this guy and mihawk said okay only to find out later that it was his ex husband adopted son

but as a fully functional adult he said 'eh sorry shanks' and went for a couple of swings only to get the hell out of there the moment shanks shows up just in case apology won't be enough

hear me out… mark grayson has a father who came to earth with a colonizing background (the viltrumites) who had his son with a human and left him with powers and then said son uses his powers to fight his father’s (and his) lineage… it’s almost as if in 2013, rebecca sugar created a show where a high ranking member from a colonizing empire came to earth, had a baby with a human, and the consequently said baby is left with powers and that child has to fight said colonizing empire his mother came from………

(one key difference though, is that while both omni man and pink diamond/rose quartz hid their true identity, or nature, to those around them; omni man came to earth with the intentions of colonizing earth, while rose quartz fell in love with earth when she was tasked to colonize the planet and then started a rebellion against said empire. omni man has shown rebellion against the viltrumite empire, but not directly. he still held his viltrumite values true to his heart while pink did a full 180 and turned completely against the other diamonds)
