Greta: Mommy, why don’t you ever pack me a real lunch?
Me: I pack you lunch.
Greta: But not a REAL lunch.
Me: I pack you lots of things. Cheese, crackers, sandwiches, fruit, salami…
Greta: That’s not a real lunch!!
Me: Um, okay. What’s a real lunch?
Greta: Sushi!
Me: You want me to pack you sushi?
Greta: Yes! And seafood!
Me: …seafood? In your kindergarten lunch?
Greta: Well, at least seaweed.
Me: I can pack seaweed.
Greta: And swimp.
Me: Shrimp?
Greta: Yes! I love SWIMP!
Me: I don’t think shrimp would be good for school lunch. I can make it for dinner.
Greta: Whyyyy won’t you make a real school lunch!? Whyyy.
Adventures in Librarian-ing
I found another book that makes little kids lose their minds: Bad Dog by Mike Boldt.
I guarantee this one's a winner with the Littles.
It's especially A+ great for Kindergarteners (though entertaining for at least up to Grade 3 for sure), because it doesn't have a lot of text and they're super engaged with yelling at the girl that Rocky's NOT A DOG.
Way back when I worked with kids for a while my colleagues asked me about how I got them to quiet down and listen so quickly whenever I was alone with them.
I just told them I didn't know because I thought it was embarrassing to admit that all I did was channel my inner Aragorn, son of Arathorn, heir of Isildur and Rightful King of Gondor.
I simply held my hands out palms down, and said, in a deep, quiet voice.
"Peace".
It was always met with complete and utter silence and a bunch of kids staring at me, confused.
Try it.
Happy National Kindergarten Day, everyone! Dr. Eggman acts as a teacher to his children because I have no idea for sure and don't have time to color it. Just observe kids enjoy activity. ❤️😋
Teacher: "What month is it?"
Student 1: "Fall!"
Teacher: "No, that's the season. It's 'June, July, August, September...'"
Student 2: "October!"
Teacher: "Good job, now what's the season?"
Student 1: "Foggy!"
Teacher: "No, that's the weather..."
Student 3: "Hot!"
