If you are a child of the late #60s or even early #70s like I was, you might not fully be aware of some of the things your fathers had to do if they were drafted like mine was. When my dad handed me his life story 6 years ago in order for me to edit and publish it on Amazon, I was amazed. I knew how his post office buddies always told me about how fearless he was for being such a little guy, but I never really knew how much until I read about his time in Vietnam. I really enjoyed Jade Chang’s ‘The Wangs Vs. The World’! It’s about a Chinese-American family that loses their wealth in the financial crisis and the father that looks to the East to gain it back. As someone that’s read a lot of books tagged as “immigrant narratives,” this one stands out by giving us characters that don’t see America as a place to lose themselves in but rather as a place to rebuild and mold their identities into.
