The old me would think the royal ceremonial robe being longer than Yona should mean something. 🤔
But since this manga isn't that deep, they maybe just didn't have time to make or shorten one for Yona, and she took Soo-won's robe instead. It was 4 days though; they definitely didn't have time.
Which is maybe a good thing from the writer too — that she took care of these small details. There was a war, the country was weak, and no one was free to make that.
But for me, in my personal opinion it's a symbol that the position is too big for her.
I Still Can’t Accept the Ending of Akatsuki no Yona, worth i'm still Angry.
Many people told me, "You understood the manga wrong," "You can't understand the characters," or "You can't understand the goal of the manga." Well, the manga ended, and until now, I still can’t understand the goal of it.
From the beginning, I viewed the manga as Team Soo-won vs. Team Yona, and for me, I was always on Team Soo-won. Soo-won achieved everything by his own effort; he spent years learning. Yona achieved everything through the power of Hak and the Dragons; she didn't learn anything to become a ruler.
Secondly, the writing is weak in some parts. For example, how quickly the Dragons joined Yona without asking a single question. Also, the state system—are there judges or a court? The political standards were weak. An example of this is in the Fire Tribe, where Yona turned the second son and his soldiers into farmers. When the war came, he said, "What is this? My soldiers have become just angry farmers," and his assistant replied, "And whose fault is that?" Yona did not realize what she had done, and her "reforms" in the state didn't solve the core problem, and Soo-won didn't see this either. This was just a weakness in the writing.
The weakness in writing started to appear from the Xing arc and increased as the chapters progressed until we reached this annoying ending.
Another topic, Many people say Soo-won should have taken a different path; that he should have put King Il on trial and removed him from power; that he should have deposed him with the help of the other leaders and kept him alive. They say he could have done a coup without killing him.
Well, Soo-won had to be the King because to make any change, he needed an army to move with him. Yona was able to do what she did because she already had a small army moving with her. Therefore, Soo-won needed to be the King. Any other solution, whether killing or deposing Il, would have been seen by Yona and Hak as a betrayal, and they would have hated him. Secondly, we don’t know if there were judges or a court, so taking King Il to court was not an option. Regarding getting support from the five tribes: Hak and Mundok would not have supported Soo-won _ i really can't understand these two_ . The leader of the Water Tribe was a passive person and wouldn't have done it either. And I don't think the leader of the Earth Tribe would have agreed to participate in a coup.
King Il did not give Soo-won any political position that would allow him to request the removal of the King. And again, even if there was a way to depose Il, Hak and Yona would have considered this a betrayal too—not to mention King Il's assistants or advisors who were stealing state money and doing what served their own interests, which was mentioned in the manga, moving away from all the assumptions that were not mentioned.
Coming to another point: Yona as Queen. Some said Yona could become the Queen during peace times and Soo-won the King during war. There is no such thing as a "period of peace"; it’s called a "Cold War" period, and I don't think Yona can handle something like that. Long ago, I watched an anime where merchants manipulated prices and the market and collapsed the state economically there was no war or one single drop of blood. Could Yona recognize and solve tricks like these? You will say, "But Soo-won is her advisor now, and that's a high position and he will help her."
Well, I don't accept this. Soo-won lived his life alone; he doesn't see himself as deserving of anything good and always feels he deserves punishment. And now, he will live to serve Yona and see her happiness. I am sure he will do his best to always make her happy, but what about him? When will he find happiness? Can he find it in Kouka, where everyone looks at him as "the Soo-won who betrayed Yona and Hak"? Yes, we will respect him because he is Yona's advisor, but we will never get close to or trust him again. Is he supposed to find a life among the looks of people who judge him in silence?
Finally, I will talk about friendship. I won't talk about their trio friendship, only Soo-won and Hak. Soo-won understood Hak's character and his deep love for Yona, and he decided not to be an obstacle in their way. He knew Hak was the only one who could encourage and calm Yona, and that Yona would be his only priority. He loved Hak's simplicity and wantedto be like him. But Hak only loved Yona. He said he wanted to reach Soo-won, but he wanted to reach the Soo-won that Yona loves. He didn't seek to know Soo-won personally; he didn't see his sadness; he couldn't see that something was wrong with his friend; he couldn't see that Il treated him badly. Hak didn't even put in the effort to know him. I don't know, I don't have all the evidence, but I didn't like the trio's friendship; each of them was in their own world.
Maybe I understood the events wrong, maybe I don't understand anything anymore. I can no longer stomach this manga. It angers me, it angers me deeply. There are those who say, "What's the problem with Soo-won staying as an advisor to Yona? You're being dramatic. Why do you think his life ended like this? He can find a life in Kouka; he still has Keishuk, Hyoo-ri, and Min-soo."
I don't like Min-soo and I don't want him near Soo-won. I want Soo-won to leave and leave all of Kouka. Maybe I understood the events wrong, maybe I'm dramatic, maybe I'm giving the matter more than it deserves, but Soo-won's character deserved more justice than this. To have the end be the domesticating of his character to be just one of the army of men following Yona is annoying.
This post maybe is not organised or clear but thats how i feel from this manga and i'm not going to reread this manga to understand it more i had enough with it.
Sorry for the long post, but i wanted to get the anger out of my chest.
Who was it that I was chatting with years ago where I said, "Even if Suwon dies he'll live"? Because this final arc has been so funny to see play out in that regard.
