Entertainment Spotlight: King Vader
Popular YouTuber King Vader is best known to parody music videos that place many familiar characters from anime and superhero movies in dance-off scenarios, and his distinct Black rewriting of those characters. His most recent video, Hood Naruto The Movie, hit nearly 2 million views and was trending at #10 worldwide. Vader writes, directs, produces and edits all his own videos, and has a goal to be the “greatest director of [his] generation.” He took the time to answer some of our hard hitting questions. Check it out:
How did you first get into video creation and direction?
My cousin introduced me into the world of film making at a young age by having me act in a variety of short films. At that point, I knew this was what I loved and this was what I saw myself doing.
Who would you love to collaborate with on a video?
I would love to collaborate with Donald Glover (AKA Childish Gambino ). I see a lot of myself in him and how he acts. A Donald Glover x King Vader video would be something I think the world would love to see and I anticipate it would be something amazing altogether.
What’s the best advice that you’ve ever received?
The best advice that I’ve ever received is that you can’t expect people to believe in you in the beginning, so it’s your job to make them believe.
Do you have a favorite line, scene, or moment from Hood Naruto The Movie?
My Favorite line from Hood Naruto The Movie is “ Oh you thought these was ones nah! We ninjas and we’re about to beat the Chakra out of you,“ derived from a fight scene from Hood Naruto when Obito Uchiha fought Kakashi Hatake and Naruto Uzumaki
What’s the funniest photo that you have on your phone right now (either share or describe it)?
The funniest photo I have in my phone is a picture of me with corn rolls. I’m in a red jumpsuit as I was working on my adaptation of the movie “Us” where I had to play a tethered version of myself.
If everything that you did was narrated, whose voice would you want narrating your life?
I would have Morgan Freeman narrate my life because he has the natural standards of a narrator's voice. It’s very profound and compelling.
What’s something that most people don’t know about you?
Most people don't realize I edit, write and direct all my own videos.
What’s next for you?
I’m about to make a shift into movies and television, where I will be adding in commercials and creating movies of my own.
