Sokka: *Staring at him in love*

Zuko:*Sees Sokka and softly smiles and waves*

Sokka: *Blows him a kiss*

Zuko: *Rolls his eyes but struggles to suppress a grin as he speaks to his advisor again*

Sokka: *A heavy sigh of adoration*

Katara: Can you please not be gay for like... five seconds?

this has probably been done plenty but i don't recall having ever seen it on my dash at least, but another "Zuko being pressured to marry" concept!

so there's only so much he can piss off the rest of the court and world royalty at large with his new position, and marriage to some form of noble from the other nations is the best he's gonna get as compromise from the pressures-that-be for this. an olive branch to the world at large, he's not gonna marry a fire nation noble and just become his father all over again. There's not really anyone suitable from the north pole, and while an argument could be made of Katara and Sokka being the royalty of the south pole water tribe, no one's gonna tell the Avatar of all people (who just totally wrecked the past fire lord like, not even a few months ago they aren't gonna forget) he's gotta break up with the water princess, and there's enough displeasure about Sokka being a nonbender (because it's still considered "weak" to the bigoted fire nation nobles, not to mention the implied power balance "obvious" to the other nations if they don't just flat out think the same. forgetting that same nonbender is the genius behind almost all of the strategy seen overthrowing King Bad Dad and co.) There's probably a big deal made of "siring heirs" thrown in too, even if Zuko is not about that nonsense at all and also dude we're like 16. (you will pry ace!Zuko from my greedy little twice dead projecting hands)

Meanwhile Toph has been chilling with Zuko and helping him blow off steam after these increasingly frequent meetings with his advisors, and how what he really needs is a marriage of convenience between him and someone that fits the bill but isn't in it for taking advantage of his broken trust and wanting the kid thing and all that, he just wants to rebuild his nation into a peaceful, better place, and help those his father had hurt in his mad conquest. (and/or just be happy in a poly relationship with Sokka and Suki, or just as a happy aro kid)

Next meeting he's zoning out as the people bring up his marriage Again, when Toph (quite literally) kicks down the door to the room, loudly announcing that she, Noble-born Toph Beifong of the Earth Kingdom, yada yada yada, best earth bender in the world, is proposing to King Zuko, with uh... she turns and bends one of the former-door's handles into the right shape... this ring she bent herself because she's just that powerful and awesome a bender she can bend metal, suck it.

And uh, the advisors are hard pressed to argue after such a display, especially not when the former-prince that's been shooting down every one of their proposed matches just overdramatically swoons into her arms with an enthusiastic "why yes! how could I ever think to say no!"

the two are ABSOLUTELY acting as dramatic and over-the-top as possible all through the preparations and ceremony, they don't love each other at all as anything but friends (and partners in crime), but fucking with people is absolutely their favorite shared enjoyment in life. Iroh sheds a tear of happiness when he learns about who his new official niece-in-law is.
