I just finished an 8 episode marathon of Digital circus. No info on anything, no lore or internet knowledge previous of watching the episodes. Haven’t even checked internet. Two theories that I can think of:
C & A were developing an IA world where people could upload their consciousness to live in after their deaths. Kind of a “promised land”. The afterlife. The paradise. Something went incredibly wrong and the Caine IA and it corrupted its second version, the Abel AI (kind of like in the bible, Caine killed his brother). Caine took power of this “promised land” afterlife and trapped its programmers inside of it. All of the humans inside are death now, the adventures, NPC’s and objects make direct references to their deaths:
Ragatha was murdered by her mother
Pomni was pulled apart by alligators of some sort of wildlife?
Jax died on a car crash. Possible connection to Gangle
Gangle was ran over
Zooble killed herself? Or maybe died during some sort of cosmetic surgery. Hinted that she was an alcoholic
I think that adventure about a man feeling guilty about having killed his wife and ending in hell because of it makes so much sense in this theory’s context and Kingster’s story; he feels guilty that he “killed” Queenie because maybe he got her into C & A and that’s what caused her demise when all the programmers got sucked into the AI world. They both ended up in literal hell. Maybe that’s why he’s in the AI world; he went for Queenie, therefore killing himself, trying to get her back. Maybe he didn’t know what was awaiting him and once he got there he lost track of what was he supposed to do. Caine was corrupting him?
Also, Queenie is an important member of this story. She represents what’s right. “The right choice”. Queenie is the blue butterfly and therefore the correct path. She could maybe represent Eve? The mother and the source of (the creator, but not in the “god” way)? Queenie represents such a mystery for me because she was the member of the first group that lasted the most other than Kingster. What made Queenie finally abstract? She had Kingster, somewhat sane. If they kept each other company, then why did she lose control? Did Caine corrupted her as well?
Also that comment of “Kingster has been here the longest”, like Adam was the second human on earth, hence he was there “the longest” (other than Eve). That’s what I think it’s representing, but I might be reading too much into it.
Another dialogue that I think supports this theory is that detail about Spark having a brain tumor. Maybe he knew he was going to die and that motivated him to work into C&A with the other programmers to develop the IA. He could represent “the creator” as well. That’s why he’s arguing with Caine in that scene where Kingster and Queenie reunite, he was trying to reason with his AI.
Maybe being abstract is kind of like what being corrupted by sin is in the bible. The abstracted get sent “underground” (hell) and kicked out of the digital circus (out of the paradise) by Caine, who thinks that should be the one to control it.
Something else that it’s scratching my brain: Pomni’s eyes are blue and red. Right and wrong. She get’s hypnotised by her own eyes in the mirror at the very start. Why? Why is she this mix between Caine and Abel? On that same lane, where is the Abel AI? Caine couldn’t have killed it forever right? Or did he? Just like in the biblical story. It’s Pomni a soul that the Abel AI latched on in order to pass unnoticed and regain control from the inside?
I will write about my second theory after I had some sleep and finished my homework lol.
