Can we talk about how Bones has no idea Jim's down in the core(neither does Spock) but after the core is aligned and they don't crash, unlike Spock who right away is all "miracles don't happen," Bones is aloud this moment of "yes, we did it (Jim did it because who else is a miracle walking)" but Bones is smart and after a small moment of celebration he gets his own moment of "wait how the fuck did we pull this shit off" and then he gets the comm about a body coming to med bay and he's just "oh god no" and then the team comes walking in with a body bag and Scotty walks up to him still red-eyed and just chokes out a "Len-" and Bones walks up to body and pulls it back to reveal Jim and he can't even call it. It's his job, he has to say it: "time of death..." but he can't so he turns away and just collapses into the chair, head in his hands, thinking "Not him, please not Jim."
