Common Kitchen Herbs
...and how to use them in your witchcraft, part six!
Black peppercorn!
If you're like me, and you have a culinary degree, you probably find yourself the same scenario that I'm in now. You bought a pound of dried peppercorns, and now you're realizing that maybe, just maybe, you should have gone with like, three ounces. Because this is a lot... a lot... of pepper. A bitch can only eat so much cacio e pepe before they're sick of it, you know?
So let's talk about how to use up some of that fabulous peppercorn with our witchcraft. They're fantastic little buggers, I'll let you know that much, and they are SUCH a blessing.
Black Peppercorn in particular is a very common ingredient in both the kitchen and a multitude of self-protection magics. It's a potent protection herb, and it can be used as a banishing ingredient, as well as warding and home protection.
Please note: if you're concerned about your personal safety and your home's safety, please don't rely on only witchcraft. Of course it can help, but if you are afraid, please contact a loved one and do research on protecting yourself and your home. A spell jar is great: an alarm system is even better. Together is best.
One of my favorite uses of peppercorn is as a smoke cleanse. It can be a bit hard to burn, but I do have a trick for that! Shave off a few splinters of wax from a candle, and use your match/lighter/tiny dragon (oh, how we can wish...) and melt the wax onto the peppercorns. It might take a little time, and frequent re-smoldering, but the smoke is thick, intense, and purges out all kinds of nasties. It does in a pinch, just remember to seal up your home with good intentions (I open use clear quartz LOADED with protective energy for that).
Another good practice that I heavily favor is simple but powerful. I love myself a good spell jar - especially a little one, for protection and warding. Salt, peppercorns, basil, dill, garlic, ginger, and a few shards of a shattered acorn sealed with black (or white) wax from a candle or wax melt does a great job of offering you an extra bit of protection if you so desire it.
As always, remember to work in a cleansed environment, trust your instincts, and always always always do your research.
Happy witching, friends!
