Wrote a new one-shot in the kitsune!Azula-AU :) A little warning before Hand, Azula's prank is a bit disgusting in this one.
Sometimes Katara wished she could use blood bending on someone. This someone being Korra's new firebending teacher, who thought it would be good idea to treat a twelve year old girl like a soldier. But no, she knew this would be bad idea, an idea that sometimes frightened the old woman in itself because... Where in Yue and La's name did it even come from?
But still.... she had to do something about this guy. She tried talking some sense into him to no avail.
"That brat lacks discipline!" he shouted back at her.
"She's still a child!" she gave back calmly. Trying to stay calm, a thing Katara always tried with this guy but to no avail.
"She still lacks discipline!" he continued to ramble.
It was always the same these last two weeks since this guy arrived. No, she would do something about this. Which is a why she was at a little shrine hidden away somewhere at the south pole with a letter in her hand.
Korra sat in her room trying to sleep. But she couldn't, because her whole body was hurting. It was hurting because her new trainer was a bad man who liked to force her doing firebending forms until they were done correctly. Even if she said she was tired. Even if Korra said it was hurting. And he was always yelling at her, calling her vile things like 'Peasant,' 'Water savage' or 'Failure.'
Katara had left a while ago after she had tried to sooth and heal Korra. It was like this, since this man arrived here. But it was never enough. The pain never seemed to go away completely.
Azula had read Katara's letter where the waterbender pleaded for help and was instantly reminded of how Ozai had treated her. Of course this man was worse than Korra's teacher but still the Avatar was a child. So yes, she decided to do something about this. Which is why she was now sitting in Korra's room and watching the girl sleep.
Still in the form of a white fox she stepped closer. The floor creaked causing the young girl to wake from her sleep.
Korra was woken by a noise in her room and as she got up she saw the source of said noise. There in her room said a large silvery white fox, watching her. And each of their two! tails was tipped by blue flames. This was no ordinary fox, but a kitsune, Korra knew that. They looked familiar somehow. Had she met this kitsune somewhere?
"Oh this is a good friend of me, Korra." she heard Aang, her predecessor say from somewhere and it sounded as if he was smiling. Grinning even. Then it dawned on her, this was Aang's firebending teacher.
"Azula?" Korra whispered and the fox answered with laughter. And then in a puff of blue flames she turned human, well mostly human. She still had her foxe's ears and two tails. And she was tall, Korra realized, way over six feet maybe nearly seven. Her hair had the same color as Katara's but Azula still looked much, much younger than Master Katara.
"So... I'm hearing bad things about your firebending teacher?" the kitsune said with a sly grin. And Korra instantly knew this guy would probably leave very soon.
As every morning, Zhou sat by the Training ground while watching the young Avatar doing her warm ups. Atleast this she got right. Like the countless soldiers he had trained in the past, this girl lacked discipline. But like he did them, he would wear her down. Until she would obey his every command, without question. The waterbender could complained all she wanted to, this is how you'll get results and form good soldiers.
A shuffle beside him drew him back to the present. There stood a young White Lotus soldier with a tray in her hands. Ahh right, his breakfast! And he saw, that this time they even made him some dumplings. Good!
"You can put this down, soldier!" Zhou ordered and the woman complied. Agni she was tall. But her most striking feature were her golden eyes. A fire national then? But why was she so tall?
"I'm off duty until noon, Sir! May I watch the Avatar during training?" she asked him politely after she placed the tray beside him.
"Of course!" Zhou said nodding at the woman. He grabbed the chopsticks and picked up one of the dumplings. He put it in his mouth but as soon as he bit on it a terrible taste filled his mouth. His eyes watered and he nearly vomitted.
Azula grinned under her helmet. Of course these were no normal dumplings, no these were filled with a nice mixture of rotten eggs, fish and koala-sheep dung. And they had the desired effect. As soon as this imbecile of a trainer bit on them he started coughing and sitting. A shame he didn't puke all over the place.
"Drown your ancestors! Are you trying to poison me?" the man yelled at the kitsune, pointing the finger at her accusingly.
"No, I'm merely giving you what you deserve, 'Master' Zhou! You treat a child horrible, you get horrible things in return. Simple as that." she said with a smug smirk on her face.
"Who are you?!" the idiot yelled at her. And as if on cue at the same time Katara and other members of the White Lotus entered the training area.
Zhou instantly run to the headmaster of the compound and complained about her, that she had tried to poison him.
"Name and rank, Soldier!" said headmaster demanded as he approached Azula, Katara beside him grinning fiercely.
"My name is Azula, and I'm the Avatar's new firebending teacher!" Azula answered grinning while removing her helmet. Her hair spilled out and turned instantly from black to white, two fox-ears popping out of her head at the same time. Then her two tails appeared as the soldier's uniform was replaced by a silver and red robe.
"Because this one is a completely incompetent imbecile!" she continued, pointing at the fuming Zhou.
"How dare you! First you are trying to poison me! And now you question my training methods?" said man yelled at obviously ignoring the fact Azula turned out to be a kitsune.
As soon as the yelling started, Korra stopped her warm ups and saw that Katara was approaching her. The woman was grinning from ear to ear.
"Hello, Korra. How are you doing?"
"Uhh, I'm fine. Legs and arms are still hurting, though." The young Avatar answered fidgeting a bit. Now and then she looked over at where Azula, Zhou and the rest of the White Lotus were arguing loudly.
"Is she in trouble?" Korra asked curious.
"Azula? Oh no she is not." the old waterbender answered. "But it's better if we stay aside for a bit."
"You treat her like a soldier, Zhou. No worse actually, like a weapon that still needs to be forged! And doing this to a child?" Azula took a deep breath before continuing.
"Believe when I'm saying that this will do her only harm. Because believe it or not I'm talking from experienced here." Ohh, Azula remembered the training sessions with Ozai very vividly. The pressure to be nothing but perfect, the exhaustion after hours of doing katas and still having to continue over and over again because of a single mistake Azula had dared to make. And Zhou was similar according to the things Katara had told her. Azula took a deep breath, this was another thing Aang, his friends and her real mother had saved her from.
"How dare you?! How dare you to question me and my methods, spirit?" Zhou yelled again, the headmaster beside him completely overwhelmed by what was happening in front of him.
"Maybe because I'm a better teacher than you? I trained Aang if I remember correctly." The kitsune gave back nonchalantly, while inspecting her nails.
"I challenge you!" Ahh, there's the reaction she was hoping for.
"To what? An Agni Kai?" she asked feigning obliviousness.
"Yes, an Agni Kai!" Zhou yelled back.
"Fine by me. The winner teaches the Avatar firebending." Azula said smiling. The head Master just shook his head, apparently he had given up already.
It was an hour later when Korra stood together with Katara and the rest of the White Lotus on the side of the Arena, where Azula and Zhou were facing each other. Katara's hands were resting on her shoulder, as the woman stood behind her.
"This will be over fast." Katara whispered in her ear. Korra could hear the grin in the old woman's voice. And she was right. Mere moments after the gong sounded to signify the start of the Agni Kai, Zhou charged towards Azula throwing fire at the kitsune. She easily dodged everything the man threw at her and then as he was just a few steps away from her.... She loudly stomped her right foot on the ground and raised her arms. A wall of bright blue fire erupted from the ground right were Zhou stood. The man screamed as the flames swallowed him, but as they dissipated he was mostly unharmed. Only his hair, eyebrows and his beard were burned of, leaving him completely bald. His skin was reddened from the heat but not burned. He fell over from the shock after being surrounded by fire. After that the headmaster, who doubled as a referee in that Agni Kai declared Azula the winner.
Said kitsune was smiling triumphantly, as she walked out of the Arena and over to were Katara and Korra were standing.
"Guess, who's your new teacher little Avatar."
Korra just jumped into the woman's arms hugging her and Azula just hugged her back.
