weird and random question for you, but have you ever seen the performance of "miserere" from "il trovatore" from the marx brothers movie "a night at the opera"? and if so, what did you think of it?

i have not in fact (i tried to watch it but it wasn't really my thing. pensive emoji) but i do have a friend who particularly likes that film! (@rayatii)

my personal favourite opera parodies are the victor borge carmen parody, and also repo! the genetic opera (which is the best modern adaptation of any opera, tbh.)

i said as much in an end note for a chapter in "tell me what you see," but i once admitted myself to a psychiatric hospital after a major depressive episode and stayed there for several days (this was years ago and i'm fine now). there was a separate children's wing at the hospital for inpatient and outpatient kids. we never saw the kids, but one day, in the little courtyard where we'd get to take breaks and do outdoor activities, a saw the words "i don't trust anybody" written in chalk on the sidewalk in a child's scrawl. that has always stayed with me and probably always will. it haunts me; it broke my heart.

and then after watching "marble hornets" and hearing about tim's time in the hospital and reading the forms more carefully and figuring out just how young he was when admitted, that "i don't trust anybody" in chalk came back to me. and i'm just like, "tim 100% would write that on the sidewalk at his hospital."

God honestly reading that part in your fic broke me, then reading that is was based on real events broke me all over again. I've thankfully never had an experience in a psych hospital (came close in 8th grade a couple times, but, yknow, 8th grade) but ive got some friends who have, and honestly I can't even begin to imagine the kinds of things those kids must face. I mean, hearing the stories about it is heart wrenching enough, but then you get things like that chalk message and it's like. Fuck. These are real kids. There are real kids out here that feel like they have no one and it fucking breaks me.

This is obviously a bit off topic from mh, but shit man. Just from an outsiders' perspective, and as someone who's dealt with severe mental illness and episodes and similar shit to an admittedly lesser degree, the fact that Troy, Joseph, and Tim were able to so accurately portray those types of issues without even necessarily meaning to when so many other storytellers fall short when thats what they set out to do is just. It's phenomenal to me. I mean obviously I can't speak for everyone and I definitely cant speak on some of the specific issues shown (or implied) in mh, but it seriously impresses me, and I think it says a lot that so many people with things like schizophrenia, DID, and the like are drawn to the series and specifically Tim's character. Like, I know Tim Sutton didn't sit down and say "I'm portraying a character with Dissociative Identity Disorder" but fuck if he doesn't show it. Like, theyre all just such talented actors and storytellers and the subtleties in the characters and their sheer relatability show that.

Just. This fucking show, man

lord of the rings: fellowship of the ring turns 20 this year. which of the boys will indulge in/tolerate/put up with a marathon of extended edition trilogy with reader? which moment in the trilogy makes them cry? who are their favorite characters? how trash do they agree the hobbit trilogy is? do they try to just make out with reader instead of watching the movies? how salty do they get when reader pushes them away because damned if anything's interrupting the best film trilogy ever made?

2. what fandoms were apart of that you aren’t any longer?

I never really “leave” fandoms, I typically jump from hyperfixation to hyperfixation before inevitably landing back on my SpIn. There’s no fandom I can honestly say I never see myself consuming content for again.

3. characters you would marry in an instant?

Not AA, but Prompto Argentum. I love the bare bones of the man.

5. what is your favorite overused trope?

I’m a sucker for AUs (have you noticed?)

7. name a character you wouldn’t mind naming someone after.

I’ve decided I don’t want children (also I have a literal pregnancy phobia and were it not for the misogynistic laws of this land, I’d have all organs that make conception possible ripped from my body), but when I was 15 I made a point of telling my family that if I ever had a daughter, her name would be Trucy.

11. do you mind sex scenes or do you skip over them?

I don’t skip them, I’m not bothered.

13. do you mind sequels that are completely different with a new plot and new characters or do you prefer they stay with the same story and characters?

I mean, my favourite game in the AA franchise is AJ, I think that speaks for itself

17. are there any tropes you wished were used less often?

Shoehorned romance, particularly of the heterosexual variety. Before anyone misconstrues this, I don’t dislike straight romance, Ore Monogatari is still the cutest fucking thing I’ve ever seen in my life, the endgame pair in Fruits Basket (not name dropping bc I know someone who’s still reading and spoilers) still makes my little heart soar and Noctis and Lunafreya are still so beautiful together, but just try to tell me Ichigo makes more sense with Orhime when we all know he should have married Rukia (bit of a rant, sorry).

19. if you could be a part of any story, which story would you want to tag along in?

This is such a good question and it’s bugging me bc there are so many! I think I’m gonna have to say the FFXV chocobro roadtrip. Yes, I do realise that this is the thrid time I’ve mentioned FFXV in this answer, but I adore that game, man. Also, surprisingly, I feel like FFXV might be a tad less deathy than AA, my chance of survival is probably a lot higher.

sara doesn’t like to post her drawings of real people but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. she’s got sketchbooks upon sketchbooks with shane doodled into every page, sometimes just a scribble in the corner (a heart-shaped face and wild hair), sometimes a full illustration, even the rare from-life-sketch because when he works from home he sits so still when he’s editing. 

the first time she finds herself doodling ryan it’s a surprise because she doesn’t really do that. she’s looking at him sitting on the couch with shane, bickering lightly as they try two-player a single-player game (shane is what ryan calls a backseat-gamer. he doesn’t always want to play but he’ll give directions). she’s been sketching the shape of his hands around the contours of the controller. his concentrated expression in her own style. his narrow legs and sizeable arms. his huge smile. he’s almost like a cartoon in real life.

shane sees her drawings and sketches and doodles, and understands before even she does. he says “you really like having him around, huh?” and when she can’t find the words to answer just yet says, “it’s okay. i do too.”

their first christmas together doesn’t really count - they got together soon after halloween, so it’s still too soon to bring each other to their families

they spend the holidays apart, and never before has kelsey noticed just how far away illinois is

but they keep texting, and they facetime before bed, shane staying on the line until kelsey falls asleep with the phone on her pillow

and shit, shane knows it’s too soon (it is too soon, right?) but she looks too much like an angel for shane’s heart, he’s pretty sure he’s falling in love

and they said they weren’t gonna do gifts but shane couldn’t help slipping a parcel in her luggage while she wasn’t looking (a rare edition of a Captain Marvel comic) (it’s also too soon for gifts that expensive but shhh)

and kelsey finds it on christmas morning and calls him, eyes shining with happy tears and the prettiest smile, and shane half wants to hop on a flight right this second to get to her

for their second christmas, shane brings her to illinois (he’s already met her parents for her birthday last summer, so they’re gonna see them on new year’s) and they spend a wonderful week baking and iceskating and eating cookies, and shane’s parents love kelsey - shane can see his mom is trying her hardest to hold off on talking about weddings and babies

they have a winter evening wedding, a week before their fourth christmas, just their parents and siblings, ryan and sara, under snow covered trees

and kelsey has never more looked like an angel, in her fur-lined hooded white cape

and her hands are cold as he slips the ring on but her smile is warm

snow starts falling softly as they kiss

shane is already looking forward to their fifth, tenth, twentieth christmases. looking forward to seeing his girl happy and cozy and love her more every year
