When I saw the festival like scene with Susie and Noelle I couldn't help but think it all happened really fast before I recontexualized how Susie felt about Noelle. I think both of them had an immediate love at first sight crush, but both of them were too awkward to try to get closer to the other for various reasons.

Susie's had a really poor self-image until very recently and didn't think Noelle would want to be with someone like her. She also thought that Noelle and Kris were dating until she got to know them both better.

Like, I'm just imagining how jarring it must've been for Susie in chapter four to hear Noelle say that Kris and her weren't even friends. And Noelle says that like she doesn't talk about Kris in the same way people in movies/series reminisce about their dead wives.
