come trick-or-treat in my inbox requesting ficcies and I’ll either treat you to some fluff or humor or trick you with a horribly twisted sad AU (I’ll use a random generator to pick trick or treat)
send me “trick or treat” and a character(s) or ship in my inbox and I’ll write you a short little thing (I’ll be doing these all of October so send away!)
Glittering stars fill the night sky, twinkling through the crooked branches of the forest. Tobio stares through the bare branches at the moon, bright and hanging almost impossibly low. He huffs out little breaths and watches the tiny clouds rise in the cold air. He always wanted to be a dragon when he was little. He lets out one long breath and spins on his heel when he hears the leaves behind him rustling.
He recognizes the long scarf — an ugly knitted thing that Tanaka had made years ago — before he recognizes anything else. Kiyoko stops a few steps away from him and eyes him warily. She’s wearing Suga’s jacket and Yamaguchi’s hat and, he’s fairly sure, Yachi’s boots. Her gaze flickers over him and he shifts nervously. He tugs Tsukishima’s jacket tighter around himself and resists the urge to reach up and adjust Hinata’s wool cap on his head. Asahi’s boots are heavy on his feet and when Kiyoko’s gaze drops to them he almost turns and runs.
“Noya?” Her voice is rough and Tobio flinches, both at the roughness and the fact that it’s the first vaguely human sounding thing he’s heard in months.
He reaches into the pocket of Tsukishima’s jacket and pulls out the ugly knitted hat that matches the scarf around Kiyoko’s neck. He shakes his head and politely ignores the way Kiyoko’s eyes tear up. She sniffles and scrubs at her cheeks as she digs through the bag hanging at her side. Tobio’s heart clenches when she pulls out a shirt. He knows exactly whose it is, can remember vividly the last time he saw Daichi wearing it, and he’s sitting on the cold ground curled over himself before he even realizes he’s moved.
Kiyoko slowly makes her way towards him and settles cautiously at his side.
He shrugs. He has no idea about them, haven’t seen them since they all split up over a year ago. Kiyoko lets out a muffled sob and buries her face against his shoulder. It’s odd. Being so close to someone after so long. But he twists enough to get his arm around her waist.
They sit there on the cold ground, among the dead leaves, and take what little comfort they can in knowing that they, at least, are still here.
The crunch of leaves makes them both snap their heads up. A shadowy figure creeps into view and Tobio’s stomach twists.
“Ennoshita,” Kiyoko whispers.
Ennoshita steps into the moonlight and smiles at them. “The one and only,” he says. “It took me so long to find you.”
Kiyoko grabs Tobio’s hand and hauls him to his feet. “Run,” she hisses, shoving him into the forest. He can feel her just a step behind him. “Run and don’t look back.”
