Kids Next Door Lore Headcanons
It’s pretty common for older operatives to groom their younger siblings to take their positions. Cree is one example of this. The practice has gone down as the Kids Next Door has become more popularized, but it’s far from strange to see older kids teaching little kids hand to hand in the backyard.
A game of tag decides the next Soopreme Leaduh, but that doesn’t mean the prior Soopreme Leaduh doesn’t push for a certain candidate before they retire. Numbuh 100 and Numbuh 274 both didn’t, but Numbuh 362 pushed hard for Abby to take her place. But at the end of the day, it’s up to the KND as a whole to decide who they want leading them.
The Kids Next Door didn’t originally deal in root beer and corn dog sales, but once the age limit was raised way too high they got to work.
Members of the Decommissioning Squad aren’t supposed to have friends. Ever. This little rule is double as harsh on the Head. They can’t afford weakness in their line of work.
(Fanny has a loophole, being Rachel’s Global Tactical Officer, but kids still see her as a pretty soft Head for being pals with the Soopreme Leaduh and Kuki Sanban.)
Treehouses double as both shelter during weather disasters and places for abused children to live comfortably until they can find a new home.
There are like. Factions. For different fandoms. There’s the Warrior Cats club and the Doctor Time Space and the Continuums group and a herd of people who like ponies and pretty much everybody has at least one Rainbow Monkey they love. Disrespecting these groups is considered unnecessarily mean.
Bullies are considered almost as bad as traitors in the KND. If you’re an operative, and you’re using your skills to mess with kids who can’t defend themselves for laugh? Guess what, you’re a jerk, get out of town.
It’s not uncommon for kids to run away from home to become operatives- after all, you get candy, root beer, a room to yourself, and you learn how to kick butt. What’s the downside?
This is not typically allowed- if found out, they’re sent home- unless they ran away for reasons deemed understandable. Your home life sucks and you just wanted to get away? We got ya, dude.
^ Those are the few known Full-Time Operatives, and they get jobs in out of the way places like the ocean or the arctic, should they decide to take them. Numbuh 20,000 was a Full-Time Operative for the first two years of his service, and simply refused to transfer once he was settled into a loving home.
There are entire Sectuhs of kids who’ve been changed into weredogs and/or other supernatural creatures on the job or by family members. They’re given plenty of support and the accommodations they need to go about their daily lives.
The KND keeps a database of adults from all around the world who have been proven to be dangers to kids. Not just villains, but any adult who seems to have no problem hurting children is on the list. Operatives are advised to keep those places in their area heavily patrolled.
