I had SO much fun forging my own blade out of a railroad spike tonight with Laura Owen, Deborah Levin Owen, and Joey Lynn at The Joey’s Forge Experience. This was Debbie’s Christmas present to us and it was a day that I will always remember very fondly. I named my knife Kali, after the Goddess Kali. I feel deeply connected to her already. I’d definitely recommend this experience!

This Apocalyptic Tanto was hand forged by J.J. dean himself. This is a one of a kind piece is made from reclaimed 1065 carbon tool steel and
I've been working on this one on and off for many months now. Finally pushed through to finish it.
The handle was first carved in wax, then wood. From that I made a silicone mold and cast the resin. Finally stuck some green glitter on there for fun and to give it a grip.
I ground the blade myself from some tool steel. Got it up to a mirror polish, then etched the mermaid image I drew for it. After it was assembled, I went over the etching with a burin to strengthen the line art.
The scabbard is made from resin, wenge wood, aluminum, faux pearl beads, and a little light colored suede. D-rings make it attachable to a baldric or belt.
It's been nearly a year since i started making knives as my primary occupation. This project taught me an awful lot.
I don't know if any of my followers have an interest in knives or cooking, but I make them in my spare time (something I've had an abundance of the past month).
