hello everyone! its Alex Hedgefox, also known as Nintrendodude, and im here because i have some HUGE news for fans of AoSTH and SatAM! i was able to receive a never before seen document from a lawsuit between DiC and SEGA of America over the @sonicthehedeghog cartoons created by DiC from 1995. and it goes over alot of information: https://x.com/Alex_Hedgefox2/status/1878235736832450563
but the 2 important points are, SEGA definitively owns EVERYTHING created for The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog and Sonic The Hedgehog(SatAM) including characters, concept art, animation cels, to even the completed animation for the episodes and if sega wanted to, they could reuse any of the animation from AoSTH and SatAM for video games without having to pay a cent to DiC(wildbrain) in royalties.
[i have no clue if this also extends to Sonic Christmas Blast(1996) or Sonic Underground(1999) as the papers are from 1995 before either of those were put into production]
and we also find out what appears to be the true reason why we never got a third season or any kind of conclusion to the satam series. being that dic was selling satam animation cels without sega's consent or acknowledgement, so sega put an injunction on dic which legally prevents them from being able to continue the series. if you wanna learn more about this document just click the Twitter(X) link above.
now this doesnt mean sega will immediately start using the characters again, theres a chance that maybe they forgot they own what they own. but now we know that they do own it, and hopefully it will spread around to other people or eventually back to sega and theyll see that they own everything from those first 2 shows. and could easily bring them back in or retool/reboot/rebrand them however theyd like.
