"Excellant!" Jonathan was rather pleased. Not only had he managed to snag a new face in his Office, but he also was able to convince them to stay, if just for a cup of coffee. His gaze flew over the telltale signs that his visitor was utterly confused about where he was, opting instead to fill the silence.

"I don't get many visitors around here, so you are more than welcomed to stay as long as possible, my dear. And dont you worry about any dangers or monsters, it is quite safe here. You see, I managed to get old friends of mine to install some protections along side having my own personal security system. It is as safe as can be!"

With that he places a cup of the dark, herby smelling liquid in front of the traveler, along with a jug of cream and some sugar.

"Help yourself!"

It wasn't fine - not by any stretch of the imagination - but it was important to approach this carefully.

You couldn’t just command someone not to be sad or hard on themself, especially when that person had been hurt so badly, but it still hurt to see someone he cared about be so cruel to himself reflexively. The comment on its own was enough to make his friend pause, and Kieran didn’t need to see his face to be able to read his posture, to see the way he curled in on himself to protect himself from something. A memory perhaps, or the comment itself. Virgil looked so small and frail in that moment - someone that had been made smaller by so many others, now making himself smaller still. It made something in the Guardian’s heart twist painfully, like he’d accidentally endangered something fragile. What could he do? Probably not much, but he could be there - that might help.

“It matters to me.”

He moved careful and slow, trying to make it as clear as possible that he meant no harm when he placed gentle hands on the other’s shoulders. “You matter -” he stopped himself there, faltered a little, pausing to consider the best path forward.

Quinn liked Valhalla.

Quinn, really, actually, genuinely liked Valhalla. More than a friend kind of like. Romantic kind of like. 

The only problem here, or well, the stem of a large and long-standing tree of worries that branched through their mind was that they had no idea what to do about that. Should they just tell her? What if she didn’t like them back? What did you even do when you liked someone, anyway? They didn’t really want any of the nakedness like Hadi thought, and they liked being able to talk to her and make jokes and cuddle her sometimes. They didn’t want that to change. 

Maybe they were a little bit a lot scared of liking her. There were too many unknowns and possibilities and feelings they’d never felt before and didn’t know what to do with. 

This uncertainty didn’t stop them from slipping into her room late at night, silent on their toes, standing by her bed to ask in a whisper, as always, “Val? Can I sleep in here tonight?”

Lunar had been sitting at the window, staring outside into the growing darkness of nightfall and the rain clouds that were rolling in, hiding behind night’s cover. The book in her own hands having long since been shut and sitting in her lap once she had reached to a segment that had stirred something deep in her. Something so far down that she couldn’t reach it, yet it was bothering her to the point where it seemed to even affect her mood.

She shrugged slightly at Virgil’s response, supposing that he was right. Though a brief flash of something came up in her mind. Just a quick image, of bushes surrounding her, statues of frightened people running, a perpetually dark sky above, and something red and black rushing towards her. Lunar couldn’t make out what it meant but she didn’t have the faintest clue what that kind of location was ... she’d never been there. Then what was this memory?

“Yeah, I’m alright.” She finally answered, almost having forgotten to when she became so lost in her own thoughts, “It was just.. a weird thought I had I supposed. Since ... people like to see demons as some sort of monster, you know..?”

“Ok. Nobody's going to stop you or anything if you wear your robes, but they’re not something that’s traditionally around worn here,” Abbie was saying, as she got together her stuff. Wallet, a borrowed book on magic identification, her nametag, some basic casting supplies. 

They had, eventually, had to call it a night, when doing more work would do more harm than good. When the symbols swirled around Abbie’s head unforgivingly. She had made them something to eat, set up the bed for Virgil, fitfully for the rest of the night. 

“I have clothing that’ll fit you but really whatever you want is fine. Do you have everything you need?”

The Guardian carefully picked his way down the familiar path, watching for washouts, misplaced animals, and other unfortunate circumstances of a terrible, unpredicted storm like this. This storm made the area seem uncharacteristically cold, filling the forest with sounds of discontent from plants and animals alike. This was abnormal, even for the purposefully hostile environment that surrounded the Grove, and for that reason required a bit of investigation. And by who else but the Circle’s most curious student. Not that Kieran minded - opportunities to go beyond their traditional borders were rare, and the little home he’d made for himself was closest to the edges of their territory. He’s scout the area around it, and wing it from there if he found anything.

Though the sound of someone approaching him was clear, he walked without fear through the heavy rain towards whoever it was. Nobody deserved to be stuck unprepared in a storm like this, and anyone who had managed to get this close to his home in a storm like this probably deserved to stick around anyway. And indeed, as soon as he spotted the source of the most unfamiliar energy, he knew this person probably needed his help. The young man looked woefully unprepared for the area, almost fragile as he tried to curl in on himself to ward off the driving wind and rain. He held up his hands in a ‘no harm’ sort of gesture as he got closer, trying to be a bit of a wind-block.

“Are you all right? How did you manage to get up this mountain like this?”

"I missed you, Lunar!" Virgil half yelled while he ran past her door, skidding to a halt and nearly hitting the wall and spilling his armful of snacks he raided, his face flushed as he looked at her with a bit unfocused eyes. "I missed you lots! Both of you!" He nodded, not noticing how he let an empty box of tea slip from his grasp. (knowledgebeyondbooks, iM SORRY HES DRUNK AND WENT TO RAID FOR SNACKS FOR VAL)

Lunar jolted from the slight startle she got when hearing Virgil suddenly yell while almost crashing himself into a wall. She stared at him for a moment as he continued before the smell of alcohol reached to her even from where she was sitting.

Heightened senses did.. have it’s perks she supposed..

“I missed you too Virg.” She smiled with a small laugh, “But uh.. have you and Valhalla been drinking again..?”
