Since 1950, following the post-World War II consolidation of the five United States military branches into the unified Department of Defense....America has taken a day -- Armed Forces Day -- to focus almost exclusively on the service and sacrifices of the millions of men and women who make up the active duty and reserve U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force and U.S. Coast Guard.

I served with the U.S. Navy for 30 years....and I’d go back and do it all over again in a heartbeat....if only they’d take “somewhat less young” folks like me!

Without a doubt, the #1 best decision of my life....to join the Navy as an officer, when I was 21 and fresh out of college!

I’d found my “calling”....and it’s never left!
