My friend is celebrating his birthday today. A few days ago, I asked him to suggest something for me to draw for him, and he requested a drawing of Shinobu. This is definitely the most beautiful drawing I've ever made

These 3 women are definitely Kou Shuurei's role model in her life. I love that all of them are still feminine women but has a cool masculine side underneath them who don't give a damn how misogynist their society are.

Kou Shoukun - Shuurei's mother. Her mom don't excel in household chores, on the contrary she's comfortable in physical labor like climbing trees to fetch fruits but she's the one who taught Shuurei's good manners and ladylike demeanor. She's the reason why Shuurei is very polite and good at act of service. She also learned playing er-hu from her since she originally came from the Hyou clan. She's short-lived but Shuurei's personality really shows her mom's influence to her.

Kochou - Kochou is the most beautiful and popular courtesan in Saiunkoku Kiyou's red light district. Behind that job, she also has intelligence network and in control of Kiyou's underworld like a mafia boss. She's one of the leader of Kiyou's syndicate. She's like Shuurei's mentor figure since her mom died early so she seek to learn not only women things from from her but life as well. She gave Shuurei plenty of life and work experience(accounting, budgeting money) as she grow up. This experience helped Shuurei in her communication skills to deal with different types of people. She know she can't rely to her father and retainer for this. She's also the one who taught Shuurei that makeup is a woman's armor and Shuurei should still be a proud woman even if she entered a profession usually for men. She's definitely the source of Shuurei's confidence.

Sai Rin - The leader of merchant guild. According to her, she and her brother decided to become a merchant to avoid suppression of Sa clan since being merchants are more flexible than staying being a noble. It also has open doors to women like her. Now that she's retired from her merchant career, she decided not to raise a family first and focus on her inventor career to help disabled people like her husband Tei Yuushun. Her inventing skills is why the merchant guild sought her in the first place anyway. She seems like Shuurei's older experienced co-worker. I believe Shuurei start to take interest in romance because of her since Sai Rin mentioned she can balance her love and career life. That being in love with a man don't take away her identity and Shuurei want to be like that. She don't want to just be a good wife but a woman with her own individuality. She learned that oh she can take different path from what the society tells her too. Especially during this period of her life, everyone tell her she's at the marriagable age already and she will be a good wife. So she really need to hear that its okay to take different path.

Sanemi visits Kanae's grave often, even more than Shinobu. He brings fresh blue peonies to her grave bc its the only color he sees correctly; they remind him of her colorful personality.

He also brings wisteria to you know, keep her soul safe from the demons and whatnot

Sometimes when no one's around, he talks to her grave, and about what's going on in his life and that he's okay.

Whenever he ever tries to harm himself he feels something stop him. something that makes him say, "Man, what am I doing." sometimes he envisions Kanae's figure approaching him and grabbing the knife from his hands saying, "There's no need."

Sometimes when he's feeling down he'll just remember that she's in a much better place. One free from all the horrors of their world.

She had a feeling she may not come back from the mission to kill Douma, so i like to think that before she left, she wrote letters for Shinobu, Sanemi, Kanao, and whoever else was important to her. The letter for Sanemi would go something like:

Dear Sanemi,

If you’re reading this, I must not have survived the attack against Douma. But please don’t be sad.. I lived a good life. 

I want to thank you for loving me as much as you did. It’s true. I’ve known the whole time, and regret not letting you know sooner. That day that I tended to your wound at the mansion. I gave my little sister, Kanao, a special coin. This coin has been passed down through the generations of our family. I flipped the coin to the opposite side and said to her, “When you fall in love with some boy someday, you’ll change, too, Kanao.” I should have told you, I shouldn’t have been so cautious, but it’s too late. So please live a good life. For me. Try to refrain from crying or becoming depressed. Death is just a part of life, after all. Cherish my memory instead. Be kind to other people when you can, and don’t start meaningless fights. But I’m not asking that you change. Never change.

Lastly, I need you to promise me you’ll remember this: It is not your fault. It was never your fault. And though you may find more women in your future, and that’s okay, know that I will always love you.

Can I ask for shinobu giving her injured male reader a sponge bath and while she's teasing him she's also scolding him for being so reckless?

I don’t think I’ve had a solo Shinobu in a very long time… if not ever so let’s try it out! Hope I can do Shinobu justice, for real!

Kocho Shinobu- Bath of Scolding

“You’re so silly~” Shinobu’s soft silky voice purred out as she slowly but firmly ran the warm soapy washing sponge down your aching bloody back to wash off that gross red essence. Shinobu always told you over and over to not be so reckless against your demonic enemies but you are always clouded by your sense of duty that you leap into action mindlessly. Normally, Shinobu would have been very annoyed and would roll her eyes at seeing the same slayer being transferred to her hospital wing

But for you… she likes you a lot more than she would ever suspect and she truly doesn’t mind stitching you up over and over again on repeat. Shinobu let out a rhythmic hum with each sweep over your shoulders and lower spine, gently sliding her fingerpads down your wet muscles before she pulls away entirely and twists around the ceramic tub to tilt your chin up to wipe off the drying blood on your cheeks. Your rosy cheeks were flustered with a mix of timid blush and attraction towards the beautiful sweet Insect Hashira

“Why didn’t you rely on your friends, you bumbling goofball? You worried all of us! Never do that again, charging into battle like that will only cause more issue” Shinobu lightly scolded as each swipe of the squishy sponge left a soapy bud trail in it’s wake, in which she rinsed off with a flick of the comfortingly warm bath water you were being swallowed up by. The clear blue was slightly tinted with a fusion of ruby red and dark brown, due to cleaning off the dirt and blood from all your injuries. Minor injuries at most but it made your flesh ache

You held up your now clean cheeks with your hands as you pouted softly at Shinobu’s occasional touch, feeling only like a little child being scolded by his mother for a nonsensical stunt he pulled. You felt extremely embarrassed at being nude before the intelligent, elegant woman of medicines and the mansion but really… you didn’t need to worry about your naked frame as she has seen it before. Yet, you couldn’t take feeling her dainty hands on your skin and her pretty gradient purple eyes scanning over every inch of you

“You are a fine slayer and you’re not a idiot, okay? I’m not mad at you, I just clearly need to teach you better since you don’t use that cute little head a lot”
