“I don’t want you to think I’m not still mad at you.” She whispers by his ear as she begins pulling his jacket down off his shoulders. “But it’s— in the past.”
“You’re still mad at me?” Kon frowns, incredulous, but he helps her take his jacket off all the same, and once he’s free of it he trails his hands up her sides. “I gotta say, you’re giving some mixed signals.”
“Can’t you just pretend we’re human and come make a mistake with me?” She could easily just melt away her shirt, but she pulls it off over her head anyways, savoring the sensation of air on her human skin, dropping the telekinetic field she usually uses to protect herself.
“I’ll come, but I’m not sure I’d call that a mistake.” He grins, wide, and the joke is so stupid and so un-Lex that she pulls him in to kiss him again. His hands settle on her hips, and she feels a little like she’s in the weirdest teen movie for about ten seconds before she registers what he’s said and jerks away.
“I’m not- we’re not- I just wanted to kiss for a while, is all.” She just wants to feel human for a moment, and maybe she shouldn’t have gone to another non-human for that, but she thought maybe he’d understand. She swallows synthetic saliva with her synthetic mouth and her synthetic body and moves her synthetic hands away from him.
“That’s cool- we’re cool, it’s cool.” He placates, hands up and facing out. Mae finds herself grinning and she feels stupid but it’s fine because they’re both stupid. It’s fine. They’ll be stupid together, just this once, and then they can go back to being— helpful.
“I do think you’re cool,” she says, hesitating for a moment.
