Evening ritual
The afternoon has come to a close.
I make the silent journey up to the 21st floor climbing higher and higher thank you modern technology for not making me climb those stairs after such a long day.
Entering my apartment and removing my shoes is the first layer, then my pants, and my work shirt. Followed by my tank top and underwear leaving me nude as the day I came into the world and my truest self without all of the pretense and responsibility.
Walking into my house shoes and my bathroom I remove the invisible glasses that make working with rambunctious children easier. Brush my teeth wash my face. Put the keddle on for some evening tea. Making the precise measurements for teas and honey into my cup. I cradle the hot mug carefully as I find my satin gown draped across the couch. Donning it and grabbing my book after sitting my bag down on the table to grab my phone and turn on the bluetooth to connect my speaker.
I cuddle up and turn on the Jazz music that's already queued up on Spotify and who's notes will be the highway markers to the dreams awaiting to be dreamed while I read some story or another in the mean time.
It isn't a sacrifice to the Gods of old of the fats of the days kill, or a feast of feasts but it is a ritual none the less a silent, tea, literature, and music inspired ritual to bring back the woman inside the cold uniform.
I did a check in with all the gods I’ve made space for on my altar, to check to see if they were happy with the way things were and if they had anything to say
An Cailleach is the only one who didn’t answer. Everyone else said they were content with how things were and they Brighid very strongly said to trust my intuition, Freyr basically said I need to shoot my shot even if there’s risk. Freyja backed him up and an Morrigan backed up Brighid, with the added message of wanting me to master divination passed pendulum work. Loki and Thor seemed fine with things but didn’t have anything particular to say. It’s hard to describe how exactly the tone of the pendulum changed when it changed from Loki to Thor, but it did and it was fascinating to watch. Hades and Persephone are also happy with things. Hades came off very reserved and business-like and Persephone seemed so eager to answer. Haded confirmed he did ‘tap’ me a while back, so it’s good to know that I didn’t imagine that. And it’s also about the time I was starting to deal with a lot of familial death and dead animals since I was working with the museum at the time. An Morrigan came in shortly there after.
Two gods strongly associated with death at the same time? Probably a coincidence. How did I not recognize that pattern??
Seasons
Persephone, queen of the dead, spends 6 months with her beloved husband. As winter ends, her mother weeps tears of joyous anticipation, nourishing the bulbs hidden underground, pulling them up in sprouts and buds as if to beckon her little girl back from the underworld. And Persephone returns to her mother’s arms, and they embrace in joy. She seems to bring with her all the flowers from beneath the soil, and the world is sunny and cool, the seeds that mortals plant spring happily into the embrace of the sun and the joyous rain. And it is summer, and mother and daughter grow close, so close, too close for Persephone, who remembers the cool touch of her husband as the days grow long and hot, and sometimes she boils inside. And as summer reaches it’s close and Demeter bids her daughter farewell once again, she weeps, her tears cold and sometimes bitter, and her sunny face is hidden by clouds. Persephone wipes her tears lovingly, and sheds some of her own, sad to leave her mother but so eager to return to her husbands embrace. And the world is frozen as all the warmth pools in the ground. Persephone wraps her warm arms around her husband’s chest and breathes a sigh of relief as her skin cools. She tucks a flower behind his ear, a gift from her mother, and takes her seat beside him, not a little girl but a queen.
death touched her lips like moth wings like music heard on a spring day through the lace curtains of her mother's house death ached red and gold on her tongue words carved of crystal, death hung her she cradled sweet decay in her gut laid lead in her lungs, burned the still body and planted pomegranates in the ashes -7.1.17 [to persephone]
Praise to Persephone, she who emerges from the darkness of Hades at this time. She of the budding flowers and buried seedling. Mighty Queen, who's hands are stained with the rich black earth, we give you honor this season, that you may help our world bloom.
treat letting go like an art form trade the fields of gold that you grew up in for seams of it lurking bright in the dark cave folds dripping from the mouths of hounds your crown is made of teeth of gems, and flowers yellow with age and when we come before you, brought low by death, persephone won't you welcome us? please, goddess will you not judge us kindly? -10.12.16 [to persephone praxidike] ((do not interact if you're an rp blog))
o, sweet kore, a maiden still do you dance in the graveyards to spite your poorest mother? do you miss the coldness of your lover, six feet below your step six thousand miles beneath you o, persephone, do you slumber hands stained with red fruits? hug your mother, once, twice sixty times before you leave here with only the thought of your dearest pulling on your iron heart with only the light of hekate's torches to guide those surefooted steps breathe harshly the damp of death and love so deeply that it kills you lie beneath the soil and the snow and smile to be at home at last in the spring, this body will sprout a million wildflowers, a bouquet o, sweet kore, o, persephone -10.12.16 [to persephone] ((do not interact if you're an rp blog))
