Miraculously preserved on clay tablets dating back as much as four thousand years, the poem of Gilgamesh, king of Uruk, is the world’s oldest epic, predating Homer by many centuries. The story tells of Gilgamesh’s adventures with the wild man Enkidu, and of his arduous journey to the ends of the earth in quest of the Babylonian Noah and the secret of immortality. Alongside its themes of family, friendship and the duties of kings, the Epic of Gilgamesh is, above all, about mankind’s eternal struggle with the fear of death. The Babylonian version has been known for over a century, but linguists are still deciphering new fragments in Akkadian and Sumerian.

Last night I stumbled on Yesterday is History by Kosoko Jackson, and I desperately need someone else to read this book with me. I'm having so much fun, which is something I haven't said about a book in a while.

Wanna read about a Black teen who gets a liver transplant and suddenly develops the ability to time travel bc the donor was a time traveler, who starts to fall for both the dude he meets in the past as well as the brother of the donor in the present? A book that's smart, funny, and doesn't shy away from uncomfortable conversations? This is the book for you and it's such a fun ride!

Bookworm Will Review 2024 (#21)

Title: 'A Dash of Salt and Pepper'

Review: (MILD SPOILERS)

The only true way I can explain this book is if you took a Hallmark movie, make it queer and go along for the ride. I ate (metaphorically) this up!

I was such a fan of 'I'm SO NOT Over You' and Jackson's writing never failed to disappoint in his new story. Xavier, recently dumped, moves back home to live with his family in a small town where he learns he has an opportunity to 'restart' essentially by earning money for a dream program that would boost his resume and his career prospects. Getting a job at The Wharf, he meets Logan, the head chef/owner and things get so rom-com heavy!

Technically they meet each other earlier, but you need to read the beginning for yourself because I was not expecting that whole interaction over some cupcakes. SO GOOD!

The amount of times I was giggling over the banter and silliness of the story made it so enjoyable. Jackson snuck in SO many references to pop-culture including memes, which made me immediately have to reach out to them and go "OMG YOU DIDN'T!" Loved it!

Plot wise, its very much hallmark, so you don't need to really think too deeply which just adds to this book's already cozy/casual vibe. Sometimes you just need a sweet 'happily ever after' story and this was it.

Overall, would recommend!
