While Koopas do come in many colors, you don’t always fight them.  The KP Koopas are a team of fighters in a tournament arc segment of the game that just happen to be yellow.  I suppose the idea is that they’re golden and thus special, but the yellow is too close to their skintone and makes them look plainer than their red counterparts.  Maybe if their punk wristbands were also gold, that would help.

Part 2 of the TTYD enemies that I’m drawing, notice the constant quality fluctuation. I really liked the koopas with sunglasses, that was a neat design choice that really made them look like “bad guys.”
