Mira, flustered and defeated by the evils of a complicated spreadsheet, chews on her lip and stands by Rumi's cracked doorway.
She'd hardly call herself shy—but Rumi looks busy, wearing a pair of gardening gloves and an old tank top, her hair up in a loose ponytail. She's moving her plants all over the place again: rotating which ones go out to the balcony and which ones stay indoors, and all the while she looks happy and so, so pretty.
But the spreadsheets. Mira awkwardly leans against the doorway, rubbing at her arm before softly calling:
"Unnie?"
Rumi turns mid-step, a houseplant nestled in her arms. "Yes?"
She feels silly but she powers through.
"Can I—" Actually, nevermind. "Sorry, you were in the middle of something—"
But then the plant's already on the floor, and Rumi's gloves have been peeled off, and Rumi honest to god teleports right in front of her—smiling fondly as she insists: "No, no. I'm here, whatever you need."
Mira wants to laugh, but instead she smiles all soft and tender and red in the cheeks because just like that, everything's better already.
'Whatever you need.'
What a feeling. What wonderful ache it is that blooms around her chest—like her flowers out in the balcony—knowing that Rumi means every bit of it and more.
God bless the K-pop Demon Hunters fanfic writers who are PROVIDING for me right now.
Movie deadass came out yesterday and they’re already pushing these fics out. I love this community, please never stop.

I'd sooner die than bury you (grieving, grieving, constantly grieving) by @toastywarmhappyhats ILovedHerAndSometimesSheLovedMeToo Time loop fic, angst with a happy ending, this author writes SO poetically, this fic destroyed me in the best way and is an absolute fav
I want to die like a citrus tree (but that's not a milkweed's fate) by ILovedHerAndSometimesSheLovedMeToo In progress. Mind the tags on this one, it is very heavy especially at the start but is, again, SO well written. *ron's voice* you're gonna suffer but you'll be happy about it

Ok everything by a_bird_who_is_like_no_other (@forever-is-just-a-second ) will wreck you in the best way. This author knows their angst, holy moly (they are responsible for "they find her in the dirt under the tree"). Be prepared to feel your feelings.
However my favorite of theirs would be A broken soul trapped in the nastiest shell (How can you sleep or live with yourself?) This fic is a masterpiece. Incredible pre- and post- movie context added.

It Isn’t Right by WarehouseOrphan Rumi being self-sacrificial and her patterns getting revealed bc of said idiocy is my absolute favorite genre and this one is the very best of that I’ve read so far. *chefs kiss* angst, hurt & comfort, the girls taking such good care of each other. Yeahyeahyeah. I made art for this one.
Whole Life Spreading Lies by WareHouseOrphan Short but so sweet. Zoey being the best and helping Rumi heal.

Moment of Impact by flyandfall @flyandfall such good angst with a happy/hopeful ending. Really well-written action and reflection. Here’s my favorite line of poetry from it: “She should probably call a doctor, Iseul at minimum, but she didn’t, not at this moment when her girl, the sun that rose every morning, glowing golden, was awake. Was speaking. Knew her name.” HER GIRL THE SUN THAT ROSE EVERY MORNING. GAH. Amazing.

Tangled as These Sheets by tenderlumberjack Zoey-centric, really well written, relational angst, complex Celine. Post-movie and the girls are all trying to figure out their shit. Zoey ends up road-tripping in California and its such a compelling read, just trust me.
