Adam and Darklore are able to defeat Abyss and send him to another dimension, but not before Adam pulls Kray-Tor and it is super sad to see how much he feels violated by what Adam has done to him and spurns all his friends in the Soul World.
Gamora (created by Jim Starlin) made her first appearance in Strange Tales 180# (cover date June, 1975). The issue also introduced Yon-Lok, Zen-Whoberis, and the Homeworld ("The Judgement!", Strange Tales 180#, Comic, Event)
So the reason Adam has no power of Abyss is because he doesn't have a soul... and so... Adam just takes the soul of Kray-Tor and shoves him into Abyss' body, effectively allowing Adam to fight him.
So Abyss is basically just... tortouring all the souls in the Soul Gem for fun
