[sorry for the delay on this one!!! fic machine broke for a few months,]

They sit in the little grove that they’ve carved into a space for themselves, beneath the shelter of the treehouse. Susie has the boy on her lap, asleep, doglike ears twitching.

Kris is tapping on their phone rapidly, screen working despite the plastic-y texture of their fingers. “...Nobody’s responded yet,” they murmur. “Well, I mean, we got responses, but nothing actually helpful. You know. Mostly just angry rants.”

Susie sighs, shifting the child a little. “So what the fuck are we meant to do? We can’t keep a kid. Your mom’d notice, and I, uh, do not have space.”

“I don’t know,” Kris mumbles. “It’d be easier if he remembered anything, but...”

They trail off. Remember the boy’s confused, hurt voice as he described his ‘dad’, as he made it all too clear how young he’d been taken by something wanting a son, how he’d barely scraped together a coherent desire to escape.

But he had. And he’s out.

“Hell of a kid, huh?” Susie says, echoing both their thoughts. “Might’ve been years, and he’s still...”

Kris nods. “I’m, uh, pretty glad for that, for one. Even if it means we’re... babysitting? I guess?”

Susie nods, rocking the boy a little bit in slightly-scaled arms. Thinking.

“We can get blankets out here,” she says at last. “This spot’s still warded, and, uh, I have done way worse than staying in a treehouse for a bit. Not the best, but until someone gets out here with actual help...”

Kris hesitates, then nods. “Best we got. I’ll tell mom I’m staying over.” They sigh, dragging a hand down their masklike face. “This sucks, you know? He’s too young for this.”

“We were too young for it,” Susie says with a shrug. “But it happened, and we made it, and we’re fucking managing or whatever. Just gotta help him do the same.”

Kris nods, slowly. “Can’t fault that.”

The boy stirs, a little, opening an eye. “...morning,” he mumbles.

“Morning,” Kris says, smiling as warmly as they can manage. “You feeling alright?”

“Yeah, I feel... way fucking better!” He beams, bright and brilliant.

There’s a long pause.

“Okay, maybe swear less around the baby,” Susie says at last.

Kris is laughing too hard to reply.

Ralsei as the dreemurr kids cousin being invited for a family dinner and he helps cook

“I’ve never met him before”

“Of course you have!” Toriel continued straightening their tie.

“How old was I?” Toriel stopped, and nervously smiled. “I’m guessing baby.”

“Remembering him or not, i’m sure you two will get along just fine!” 

Kris rolled their eyes, but their mom couldn’t see. “I kinda wanted to be alone tonight.”

Toriel was about to respond before the doorbell played it short but ominous tune. “Just be good.” Toriel said, before going to the door.

Kris just stood in the bathroom, staring at the mirror. 

“It’s not just me tonight.”

They pulled at the tie, trying to loosen it, but to no avail. Kris decided it was stuck and they were going to have to live with it stuck on their neck for the rest of their life, when their mom opened the door.

“Why don’t you go say hello to your cousin, I think you should hang out in your room.” 

Kris flashed an ok sign and reluctantly stepped out of the bathroom. 

Waiting there, standing in the kitchen was a boy just a hair shorter then Kris. They took a step back. Other then the peach pink horns, they looked just like Asriel.

He wore giant glasses and green dress clouths he kept itching at. He was humming to himself while stirring some batter. 

Kris slowly walked up to him before he noticed. 

“Oh! You must be Kris!” the boy put down the bowl and hopped on the stool they were standing on, “I’m Ralsei! I’ve heard good things about you!” He held out his paw, slightly covered in batter.

“They have good things to say about me?” Kris said, deadpan. Ralsei relaised Kris wasn't going to shake his hand and he put it down.

“Well, they told me you’re very good at piano!” 

Kris nodded, and leaned over slightly to have a look at the family room. a bunch of furry white blurs where talking and laughing, adult style. Kris remembered their aunt and uncle about as much as they remembered their cousin, their only tangible memories was when their mom was calling them on the phone.

“I think you’re mom suggested we hang out upstairs?” Ralsei said, clearly nervous and very bad at hiding it.

“Alright.” Kris started walking, and by almost instinct Ralsei followed like a duckling directly behind them.

“This is me and my brother’s room,” They said, opening the door, “But, he’s at collage right now.”

“Wow.” Ralsei said, rubbing his feet in then looking down at the patterned carpet. Ralsei looked at Kris’s side of the room. “It must get a bit...lonely in here.”

Kris lowered their head.

“It must be sad to have all his stuff cleared out.” Ralsei said as he wandered over to the empty and bland section of the room.

“Actually that’s my side.”

“oh!” Ralsei stood back, and smiled nervously, “I’m sorry.”

Kris signed “it’s alright” As Ralsei looked out the window.

“Do you ever...get lonely?” Kris started at Ralsei, and he blubbered, “Oh! I’m sorry that’s a bit personal-”

“A little.” Ralsei froze, and fiddled with his glasses. “I don’t really have any friends, not many people want to be I guess.”

Ralsei tilted his head. “Why?”

Kris clutched their chest.  “I’m not very social, I guess.”

Ralsei nodded, “Sorry if i’ve come on too strong, Kris.”

“No it’s alright.” They were used to it.

Ralsei smiled warmly. “Well, if it helps! I get lonly a lot too.” Kris looked at him. “We live out in the country and homeschool, so I don’t get to meet many new kids. We’re pretty secluded.” 

“Your parents are here for buisniss right?”

“Yeah...and a bit of a vacation I guess.” 

Ralsei walked closer to Kris, and held out his hand again. “Well, if you ever get lonely, we’re here all spring!”

Kris shook his hand.
