Apollo/Athena:
Okay, my first thoughts were “Is this a Hades game ask?” but then I remembered that Apollo isn’t in Hades game. At least not at time of writing.
ANYWAY, I never played the games with Athena in. I might one day pull my finger out my ass and finally play AA5 & AA6, but tbh, from everything I’ve seen of her, Athena doesn’t look super interesting to me and thus I can’t imagine being interested in shipping her with Apollo either.
Yami/Jounouchi:
As a teen, I actually liked this one a little bit more than even Yuugi/Jounouchi tbh. I just thought it was cute for Yami to have a crush on Jounouchi, but not know what to do with those feelings, because they’re so far out of the realms of his usual experiences in being attracted to someone. Jounouchi was oblivious.
Also, this ship had frickin’ Azure Gong in their arsenal of doujinshi artists and to this day they’re still on my top ten. Whatever Azure Gong is doing now, I hope they’re doing well.
Connie/Steven:
OKAY THE MEME DOES STATE THAT I NEED TO BE BRUTALLY HONEST so i don’t romo ship this one. at all.
I thought they were cute at the start and I’m fine with them being endgame, but even if this is a horrible thing to admit, I found myself losing interest in Connie the further she moved away from being Steven’s nerdy friend who was completely separate to all the gem stuff and more of an involved action girl. And that’s a terrible thing to admit, cuz Connie is a great character and great representation. But just for me, those early Connie episodes struck such a chord with me in regards to what fandom friendships are like (especially the one where Steven frets about disagreeing with her opinion on a book! I am Connie in that, I know we’re difficult to deal with lol). So idk i was kinda sad to lose that?
My completely fanon hc for them is that Steven’s crush on Connie actually started to fade as early as the “Do It For Her/Him” song sequence and Connie’s crush on Steven started to fade once she left for college and met new friends, but neither of them quite realised it by the end of the series. After a few years, they figure it out and end on good terms, staying friends.
