Is it unhealthy or bad to bind your chest with tape or ace bandages?

binding with ace bandages is V BAD DO NOT DO IT!!!

i’ve heard binding with KT tape isn’t too bad (all binding is in some way unhealthy but it’s necessary to combat dysphoria) as long as u do it correctly, take breaks etc

I'm an afab demigirl who wants to bind sometimes but i have transphobic parents who would never allow me to get one (they dont believe in nonbinary genders...), is there any way i could bind safely without one until i'm capable of getting one?

i personally would recommend sports bras - they might not give u the compression u want but they’re a start, they’re ‘feminine’ clothing and they’re easily accessible!! 

i also have friends who have recently started binding with KT tape (a type of medical tape). it seems to be going well for them n they like it bc it can be worn longer n doesn’t compress the ribs as much. i’m not sure how to do it but i reckon a quick google should be all it takes to find out!!

whatever u do, don’t bind with ace bandages. it’s dangerous n can cause serious permanent damage to ur ribs!! stay safe

What is kt tape and is it a safe binding alternative? I've seen posts about people using it to bind but I'm not so sure that it is safe.

From the small amount of research I’ve done on kt tape, I’ve found this. - kt tape is a thin, strong, elastic tape used mainly for sports- it works best as binding for those who are smaller chested- It can be a bit expensive

When it comes to safety, well I never saw tape binding of any sorts to be safe. However, I’ll say that this is better than most since it’s more open chested binding and nothing like duct tape or packing tape, but it’s still not good for your skin and shouldn’t be done on a daily bases (from what I’ve read).
