“Seriously, Foggy? Now the shot’s wide open and Matt will win again!” You groaned, staring angrily at your friend who merely shot you back a dirty look in response. After a long day at the office, a long week actually, the four of you decided that a night at Josie’s was a good way to wind down from the craziness that’s been going on in Hell’s Kitchen.
If only that were the case.
After a few rounds, and lot’s of boasting on who was the best Pool player in the group, it was decided that the only way to settle the dispute was to play right then and there. What was supposed to be a nice, friendly game, had quickly turned into a vicious battle amongst the lawyers at Nelson, Murdock & Page. Well, mostly just between you and Foggy as Matt was kicking both of your asses as Karen made fun of you all on the sideline.
“As if it was purely my fault, this man is not capable of making a shot that good without you guiding him along! We would be way ahead if you could help yourself from snuggling up to him every two seconds like an old married couple!” The blond retorted, swigging back his cheap beer and staring the two of you down like you offended his honor.
“C’mon Foggy, I’m blind. Of course I need help,” Matt chuckled, chalking up his cue stick as he walked around the table towards the cue ball. It’s been a while since you’ve been able to get Matt to go out with you, Foggy and Karen, being caught up with his Daredevil business but also his actual business.
Needless to say, it took a lot of convincing to talk him into taking a night off, with promises that you would stay the night at his apartment all week so that he wouldn’t have to worry about you being by yourself. You liked to think you weren’t co-dependant, but you were starting to see what the others have been telling you all along.
But the thought slipped to the back of your mind after seeing Matt joke with his friends, loosening his tie and finally relaxing for the first time in what felt like forever. He looked so beautiful when he was happy, albeit a little drunk, with the little dimples on his cheeks that you could notice only after really staring at him, which you’ve been guilty of doing once or a thousand times.
“All have you know, Franklin, that if he sinks this shot, I'm walking out that door and will never come back again!” You said joining Matt’s side, throwing your arm around his shoulder. “And I'll divorce you as my work husband and take custody of Karen.”
“Who’s to say she’d choose you in our divorce?” Foggy shot back, raising an eyebrow.
“I thought I was your work husband?” Matt whispered to you, before you shushed him with your finger on his lips. He laughed and lightly kissed your fingers before pulling your hand into his.
Karen laughed from beside the table. “I’m definitely going with Y/N, Foggy, no questions asked.” She replied with a smile, taking a sip out of her drink.
“Great, now all my friends have left me.” Foggy resigned, chugging the rest of his beer before taking a seat on one of the stools beside the table.
“You still have Matt?” Karen said, gesturing towards the brunette.
Foggy scoffed. “Yeah? Like I can persuade him with the suay of my hips instead of hers! Who are we kidding here?”
You turned to the man beside you with a smile. “Matt? What’s the verdict?”
“Sorry, Foggy.” Matt laughed, the crinkles of his eyes showing up behind his glasses. He wrapped his other arm not holding the cue stick around you and gave your side a squeeze, making you smile even bigger.
“Exactly. Who would've guessed?” Foggy sighed. “Might as well go out with a bang. Right, Matt?”
“Of course,” Matt said, leaning down towards the table to aim his shot at the ball. With his body leaning down towards the table, you got a nice full view of his slack-clad ass, and you had no shame checking him out like you have done many times before. Still, you should've known he was paying attention anyways. “Eyes up here, sweetheart.”
You blushed furiously as you leaned down next to him, feeling the warmth from him as you leaned against his torso, guiding your hands over his as he lined up the shot. You cleared your throat before speaking. “Two inches to the right and you're ready to go, Matty.”
He smirked, listening to the beating of your heart next to him fluttering as the two of you were practically snuggled up together. “Kiss for good luck?”
You laughed at his cheekiness as you pressed a light kiss to his stubbled cheek. “You insatiable man.”
Matt was practically glowing with pride as he flexed his arm back, pushing his cue stick into the billiard in front of him, the clink barely audible in the loud bar but still sounded as the balls one by one fell into the nets, making Matt the winner of the game.
“NO!” Foggy shouted, throwing his head back as you and Karen laughed, Matt shrugging his shoulders as he went up to his best friend to console him.
“I’m sorry, buddy. But I guess it just wasn’t meant to be,” He signed, putting his hand out in hopes that Foggy would take it. But Foggy had other ideas, as he pushed Matt’s hand away and gave him a big, Foggy-bear hug. Matt, surprised that he didn’t see it coming, laughed along with you at his ridiculous friend as he resigned and patted him on the back. “Maybe one day you’ll win. For now, next rounds on me.”
“It better be, Murdock. I’ve just lost my dignity and pride in one go.” Foggy sighed as he pulled back from Matt, clapping his shoulder before turning to you. “Should I get those divorce papers started, or are you going to make one of these goons make a game out of trying to serve me?”
You moved towards Foggy and rubbed his arm. “It’s okay, Foggy, I decided that won’t divorce you today.”
“Thank god, the paperwork alone would’ve killed me,” He replied.
“I’ll help Matt with the drinks if you guys want to set up for round two?” You asked, taking Matt’s hand and sliding your fingers through his as you turned the both of you around and started towards the bar.
“Well, Nelson, ready to get your ass kicked again?” Karen challenged, grabbing the rack and started to get the billiards back into place at the center.
“Not a chance, Page. You’re going down.”
You and Matt laughed to yourselves as you made your way to the bar, getting another round from Josie while you stood off to the side, taking a moment for yourselves. He leaned against one of the side posts as his body nearly towered over yours, clearly not minding that he was invading your space.
“Are you having a good time, Mr. Murdock?” You smiled up at him.
“A very good time, Ms. L/N,” He replied, leaning down to press his lips to your forehead. You pushed your hands up from his towards his chest, resting your hands on his collarbones and fiddling with the collar of his dress shirt. You let out a sigh while Matt pushed one hand under your chin to pull your gaze from his chest up to his glasses. “Something on your mind?”
“I just wish we could do this more often. You know, going out and seeing our friends, enjoying our lives together. It seems like it's been an awful lot of the opposite lately.”
Matt frowned, running his hands down from your face to your neck, fingers dancing around your pulse point. He felt the strong beat of your heart with every word you spoke, nothing but the truth. “I’m sorry that I haven’t tried harder to see you outside of work. I’ll make sure to do better next time.”
You shook your head at his words. “It’s not your fault, Matty. It’s been crazy here lately and you work so hard at everything that you do, I could never blame you for that.”
“I sometimes have to remind myself that I’m the catholic and you’re not. How weird is that?” Matt chuckled, placing another kiss at the edge of your lips, not quite aiming for a specific spot but still catching your soft skin. You hummed in reply before turning your head slightly to catch his lips in a sweet kiss. He moved his hand from your neck up to your cheek to hold you in place as he then sighed into your mouth.
You pulled back slightly, running your hands from his chest up to his shoulders, smoothing the wrinkled material down. “Something on your mind?”
He shook his head. “Nothing except that I love you, that’s all.” He pecked your lips once again before speaking. “And that Josie’s been standing with our order for a while and I think she's ready to throw our drinks away if we don’t hurry.”
Giggling, you went with him to grab the beers and bring them back to your friends, before starting yet another round of Pool, but this time, with no divorces needed.
