It's always fun being attacked by a public figure and a few of his fans.

So, Dan Riggs of KTWIN radio in the Twin Cities pretty much told me that my opinion didn't matter and that I needed to leave his Facebook profile because I didn't share the same viewpoint as him.  He posted about the father who killed his 3 children in River Falls, Wisc. about an hour or so ago calling him a monster and how he wanted to go and finish the guy off himself. While I completely agree that the guy should go to prison (OBVIOUSLY). I politely said that yes, while he deserves to be punished for what he's done, he is in no way a monster. He is human. He is human with violent tendencies but he is a human. He eats, drinks, breathes, has a job, carries on his life (before the crime) just like any other person. He has feelings. He has difficulties in his life (divorce, work, etc) and while that in no way, shape, or form excuses him from what he has done, he is still human and though we hate to admit it, we are VERY similar to him.  I told Riggs that I was reading this book called The Gift of Fear, which I have to read for a self defense class, and I probably would have thought the same thing about the guy before I read this book. It changed my view of the world and now I see people for what they really are. Human. Bringing more hate into the world isn't going to solve anything. It's just going to breed more hate which just breeds more hate which just breeds more hate in a never-ending cycle. I was told by fans of Dan Riggs that I was a "sick individual" for feeling the way I do. For what? For seeing the we are all more like this guy than we want to admit? At least I admit it.  I was asked if I had children of my own. No. I don't. And honestly, if I did, I would not teach them hate. I would teach them about love, loss, sadness, cruelty, but never hate. There is too much of it in this world already, why add to it? And on that note, why would I want to bring a child into this world with so much hate? I am being attacked for expressing my opinion. I have a RIGHT to express my opinion. It's called Freedom of Speech.  A woman said "Don't for one second blame others around him ...Shame on you for trying to put blame on others." I never said anything about placing the blame on others. I said that there were enough factors in his life, in the lives of people around him that people could have seen this coming. He threatened his own child once before! HELLO! WHY WOULD YOU LET YOUR KID ANYWHERE NEAR HIM AFTER THAT?! I never put the blame on someone else, I said simply that it could have been prevented. Why would I put the blame on others when I know it was him that made the conscious decision to do what he did? I wouldn't. When I brought up that there might be other factors in his life to cause the kind of mindset to do this I was told by Riggs "You want to coddle these A**holes and justify BRUTALLY MURDERING HIS THREE LITTLE GIRLS on home foreclosure?". No. I do not justify it because of home foreclosure. I'm saying that it could be a stresser that put him in that mindset. WHO KNOWS IF IT EVEN HAPPENED! IT WAS AN EXAMPLE! I am saddened by the amount of hate in this world and how other people can't see that yes, while there are some with violent tendencies, we are all human. That is the point that I wanted to get across. He's still human and while people might be afraid to admit that because it puts them on the same level as him, it's true. I've accepted it, you should too. Rant, completed.
