fun KTYG fact: i considered changing her name, or rather extending it to "karkata", the word it's derived from. the main reasons i didn't:
didn't want to reinforce the idea in my head that names ending in -a are always more feminine. this is true in many languages but false in many others
i like the name "karkat" as it is

not six letters. i headcanon that trans trolls who pick new names don't always honor this rule, but i also headcanon that troll names are much less gendered in the first place and trans trolls are much more likely than trans humans to keep their given name.
i mentally pronounce it "kar- kah- ta", with kah like call instead of a short A like cat
