NOTE: The Epic Cosplay wig used here is 1) an older discontinued model that has been cut and dyed, and 2) has defective matting at the crown. So don't take it as good indicator of the Apollo model and Epic Cosplay's wigs overall quality. The revamped Apollo looks more like this:
Their newer Apollo has a stimulated hair whorl made from a “spiral” of wefts (as seen in the above image), and thus has no matting. I own another Epic Cosplay wig (Nyx in Princess Pink) and it’s one of my best/fave wigs in terms of quality and ease of maintenance.

Heya! Just doing a quick review of a pair of Akashi Seijuurou wigs I currently own. I’ve previously been using Epic Cosplay’s Apollo wig in Raspberry Pink, that was cut, straightened and dyed. Got a KUCOS wig because there is some...issues with the Epic Cosplay that made it somewhat unwearable, and I’ve always wanted to try a KUCOS wig.
Size, Density and Pricing:
Most wigs on the cheap side tend to be on small side when it comes to sizing. The KUCOS wig, at a little under USD 10 (minus shipping), is no exception. My skull is fairly small, and the wig is still quite snug when worn, even without attaching the size-adjustment tabs. The wefts aren’t very thick, so the wig feels light and rather thin on the head.
Epic Cosplay’s wigs are actually a touch large for my head, despite being (so I’ve read on the internet) somewhat tight-fitting for those who aren’t of Asian descent. At USD 29.99 it’s still one of the cheaper synthetic wigs out there, and the quality is VERY good for the price. Apollo is meant to be a wig for spiking and for shaggy hairstyles and thus it’s a very, very, VERY dense and thickly-wefted wig. The appearance is a lot more fluffy and the fibres appear to have volume, which is rather fun to wear.
Fibres:
Both wigs claim to have heat-resistant fibres that can withstand the heat of a straightener/curler, and I find this to be true, as long as you keep the temperatures at 160 Celsius and below. Which is good enough for most styling situations anyway.
KUCOS’s fibres are thicker and more matte-looking, and feel rougher to the touch. Looks quite realistic, but I suspect that this kind of fibres would tangle easily, if it were a longer wig.
Epic Cosplay’s are thinner, silkier, and even after repeated heat styling and washing, it still has that gleaming Pantene super-healthy-hair shine, hahaha. The fibres are rather tangle resistant and easy to comb out, without fear of damaging the fibres too much.
Color accuracy:
KUCOS aimed to mimic Akashi’s hair coloring in the anime, complete with darker low-lights, and in my opinion I think they did it quite well without needing to gradient dye the fibres. The two-toned coloring is from using two different colors of wefts in the wig. Overall color is that rather-hard-to-find red-purple, which is pretty damn accurate to the anime-version of Akashi’s hair.
Epic Cosplay does create character specific wigs like KUCOS does; purchasers are expected to style the wig themselves. Their Raspberry Pink was the closest approximation I can get to anime!Akashi’s color. That said, it’s VERY pink, and is more on the warm side than KUCOS’s wig. I actually darkened it slightly with a light wash of purple Sharpie dye previously, when I was still actively using the wig. Said dye has since washed out, and most of the wig is back to its original hot pink color.
Backcombing/Structure of the crown:
Most cheaper wigs without skin tops usually hide the wig cap and mimic the hair’s crown by placing their wefts in a certain arrangement and backcombing + heat-treating the backcombed fibres so they matt together, forming a layer of dense fibres that also provide some fluff to the wig.
This is the primary reason why I ended up buying the KUCOS wig, really. The Apollo I’ve received from Epic Cosplay did not have the wefts stitched and arranged properly, so there was a visible bald spot where you can see the wig cap. Even after doing my own matting/backcombing, it was difficult to hide the bald spot. The matting was REALLY obvious and frankly, it was a terrible, tangled mess that looked pretty horrible, especially compared to rest of the otherwise silky-looking wig. I did try to straighten and rearrange the fibres, but because of how the wefts were sewn, it was very hard to keep bald spot blocked without an excessive amount of hairspray, and even then I had to deal with wayward locks that stuck up at odd angles and look like “ahoges”/”idiot hair”.
KUCOS’s crown was very subtle, and for a cheap wig, it’s pretty damn convincing. The matting wasn’t too obvious, and it forms a nice starburst shape.
Inside the wig cap:
Epic Cosplay's Apollo model has some wefts sewn into the inner edges of the wig cap, to make it easier to conceal the cap when spiking the wig (it's designed primarily as a spikeable wig). It adds to the fullness of the wig + hides your own hairline better, but it DOES make the wig somewhat itchy to wear, because the plastic edges of the wefts are quite scratchy.
KUCOS, being a character-specific wig and not meant to be dramatically spiked, does not have the inside wefting. Without the inside wefts, it's more comfortable to wear, but it does run into some problem with covering your own hair properly, especially the stray bits around the hairline that may not be properly caught by your hairnet/stocking cap.
Conclusion:
Firstly, I’ll admit, I’m very nitpicky about color accuracy with wigs, so I tend to spend a lot of time searching for wigs of the right color. In that, KUCOS has done an admirable job, and at its price it’s VERY good value for money.
That said, there’s a lot of little things that make it obvious that it’s a cheaper wig. The size of the cap, for one, and the lack of wefting on the inside edges of the cap. The overall density of the wig is also somewhat lacking, and can look on the thin side.
KUCOS is sold only on Taobao, and for those who live outside of China, you’d require the use of agents to help purchase their wigs. Epic Cosplay, on the other hand, ships nearly everywhere, and is easier to acquire for English-speaking customers.
Has anyone bought a Kucos wig recently? How’s the quality? I’m looking to get the Isabel Magnolia wig.

Okay, first of all, sorry about my appearance on this review. LOL. That's me as Sinon from Sword Art Online 2. Photographer and HMUA Jed Dacanay, shoot assistants: Gian Jurado and Armen Bongao.
Okay. So this is my first Kucos wig. First thing I noticed is that it's dryyy. the strands in general are dry and more or less clumps together complimented by a subtle frizziness of the wig, especially the top part. Though from what I heard, some companies purposely put frizz on top to add volume for the wig, in which I personally think is necessary at some point.
I like how the wig is styled. No wax/glue was used to 'spike up' those sides which I really find as a nifty fifty. Though I find the bangs too long for the character, it's best that way than being too short since you cna always cut, not grow. lol.
The wig is on a not-so-thick, not-so-thin basis and I find myself trying this brand's long wigs if I get the chance
Hi! Do you have any reviews for Kucos wigs ;w;?? I'm having a bit of trouble looking for reviews..
No sorry, I haven’t tried it yet. But incase I do, hopefully soon, I’ll post it right away :)
