Şeyhü'l İslâm, Emîru'l-müminin Süfyan b. Uyeyne (h. 197) رضي الله عنه şöyle anlatır:

"Kûfe şehrine ilk girdiğimde henüz 20 yaşına basmamıştım. Ebû Hanîfe, Kûfe ehline ve talebelerine beni kastederek; 'Size Amr b. Dînâr'ın ilmini almış, ezberlemiş bir âlim hâfız geldi ey halk!' dedi. Bunu işiten Kûfe, âlim ve talebeleri etrafımda halkalar oluşturarak bana sorular sormaya başladılar. Beni ilk kez muhaddis/âlim yapan Ebû Hanîfe oldu."
