re; your tags on the last post: are you saying kiryu gives you trouble when writing? or in your relationship?

Writing him! His "voice" is weirdly hard for me to comfortably feel like I've gotten even decently accurate. Between the main story and all the substories, he feels a little all over the place. I usually start at 3-4 basic traits and grow from there when writing anyone, but this ass. XD

He's depicted pretty often as stoic and fairly... Non-talkative? And this isn't inaccurate. Yet there are points where he gets real damn wordy. He's just kinda tricky for me to grasp, and I'm still not entirely happy with where I'm at with it. Imma keep working on it though.

(altho depending on how closely I stick to canon, he can also cause problems in the relationship. love the man, but he's an idiot)

Majima y0 and then kiryu for the rest. I really like Ichiban though he is giving kiryu a run for his money

B5: Which character do you think you would bump heads with most if you knew them in real life?

I mean the obvious answer to this one is like, shimano and other Big Bad Guys... actually you know what let's go with sagawa because ive seen people actually like him and other than the obvious majima mistreatment going on there, his personality would make me want to curb stomp him. I also love nishitani but i dont think i could stand being in the same room as him

C4: Which character would you like to see as a protagonist?

Okay I'm going to stay Haruka; I know she was in y5 but I hate y5. I want her to beat people up.

C15: Who has the most tragic story?

Makoto Makimura I will not be taking comments at this time. Majima is a very close 2nd but I think my girl makoto is arguably more tragic

E4: Eat: Ramen or Takoyaki?

I love both but in yakuza terms, takoyaki so i can get a good cry in

goddamn it i love all of them... and it's also weird because Haruka is the exact same age as me (born in the same year) but pretending im as old as i am and they are y3 age maybe Ayako or Izumi? But I also DONT WANT TO SEPARATE THEM i'll take them all.

A2. Favorite game(s)? oh god theres so many good ones... yakuza 0 definitely. judgment. yakuza 7. as top 3 i suppose.

A4. Favorite antagonist(s)? this question is kinda funny to me because i would answer ryuji or mine, but my brain doesnt even seen them as antagonists anymore LOL they are simply more of the Guys. picking one thats like 'you are evil and i love it' tho, i would probably say soma and akutsu.

B5. Which character do you think you would bump heads with most if you knew them in real life? HMMM...... i usually have a hard time imagining myself interacting with characters... kiryu is the first thing that comes to mind tho. i love the character but if i met a guy that stubborn and emotionally constipated i would not know how to deal with that. i feel like 0 kiryu is significantly easier to get along with tho, since he seems a bit more in tune with himself.

C12. Whose voice do you enjoy hearing the most? RYUJI.... hes so growly.. wish i could sound like that LOL

Flashing that enormous, ornately detailed sword then just fucking dropping it and not using it at all was an absolute baller move

I think there’s a lot you could do with him in any given piece of fanwork, considering how little we’re given about him in game (despite him being such a major boss battle) - the social darwinist view of the yakuza, the inheritance from his father vs. “I don’t give a fuck about that old man” or whatever the line was.

One of like forty people who decides he’s got beef with Kiryu while barely knowing his ass but Aizawa is also the only person in the series with Grand Canyon titties so I’ll forgive him anything

I’d be really interested in reading some character centric writing about Majima in the period between Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami; he’s considerably more violent and erratic at the beginning of the latter than he seems at the end of the former and that would be a cool thing to see delved into

The continuous theme of masks and the isolation of performance at work within his character is really potent, despite the surface level wackiness, and the writers definitely had a lot to say with him in the first few games especially.

Gave us the Kiryu line Little Baby Iwami and I will always appreciate him for that

hahaha okay then! in that case for wakaba/watase could you answer: 4, 5 and 12

4. Would you say you have a pretty good relationship?

They gel pretty well. They have similar personalities and values. They both are protective and loyal of one another and those they care about. Watase is a bit more extroverted but it balances with Wakaba being more of a homebody. Neither one are short on words so communication isn't an issue very often.

5. What are some struggles you have being together?

Distance is an issue. Wakaba's home is still in Kamurocho and Watase certainly can't relocate to Tokyo (pre-dismandment). So there is a lot of exhausting travel trying to see one another.

Wakaba occasionally feels a bit of insecurity knowing that Watase still has to make appearances, wining and dining other families and there is always hostesses present. She knows Watase will honor her request of "you can wine and sweet talk the girls all you like, but keep your hands to yourself." but now and then it gets under her skin.

123. Are you accepting of their lifestyle, or do you wish they'd change? Would they change for you?

Wakaba grew up in the life, so for the most part she sees no issue with the way Watase works. She knows his type. With the disbandment though, it was like he changed without having to be asked. No longer a yakuza she can worry less about his safety.

Watase really wishes she would stop getting into trouble, but knows there's not a chance in hell she's going to sit on the sidelines when her friends or sisters might need her. So he would never ask. For both of them they have a foundation built on their sameness and understanding that change happens on its own.

He also wishes she would eat better. Left to her own devices she just snacks instead of eating an actual meal.
