whenever i start to think about kunten i feel like the fan in my brain starts to whirl around very violently. a true government assigned mandatory ship. ten did not know how to navigate around someone the same age as him who he was supposed to be close with but had near to no commonalities with. kun obviously liked ten in a "he is a very good dancer and i admire him so much" and "he is a member of my group so i should support him" way but was constantly going back and forth between answering ten's teasing and being hurt by it a little. kun loves being babied but is put in a position where he is both the oldest and the leader, the only person who can "baby" him would rather kill himself than baby anyone who is not younger than him by at least 2 years. kun is easy on physical affection. ten shies away from any touch he doesn't directly initiate. kun is forever tied to his group. ten can never be tied down to a group.

all in all to say they were friendly coworkers until like, 2021, then everything went to shit. ten who was marketed clearly as a solo artist had to go to china alone, which is not a country he is that connected to, with a language barrier still intact, where he would judge people very frequently. kun is tied back to his radio station job again, they are literally on the edge of disbanding wayv, and unlike other members kun can't really be relocated to other subunits that easily. kun IS wayv. ten is Ten, who is in wayv, sometimes. Kun is about to visit china for friends and family when another lock down literally traps ten. Ten, who is promoting himself and his group, doesn't even know if he will have a group to go back to. That shit shakes him to his core.

Ten goes back. Finally. Ten coming back is the sign that things can go back to normal, and they're giving stages(very limited) but they're on stage again! Pink xiaojun decides to kill everyone for no reason.

At some point, ten is given solo work again. All of the boys support him. Kun sometimes the most. Wayv also has comebacks, and then they win at some point. Somehow someway in a foreign country's even more foreign group ten actually goes okay this really is my group isn't it. He looks at his government assigned children and he looks at his government assigned captain.

He still can't be tied down, but neither the crew nor the captain want to anyway. None of these people wanted him to get stuck, he sees, especially the captain. If he wants he can have the ropes, if he wants he can leave, but he doesn't want to. He wants to belong.

He’s here now, trying to figure out why it still feels like Kun is lying to him. He’s here now with Kun. For Kun. I missed you, Kun had said, even when they were an arm’s length apart. That part, Ten thinks, is true. And suddenly, and even though he’d been thinking about its impossibility, about its ridiculousness, all Ten can think is I missed you, too. Maybe Kun senses it. Maybe he doesn’t. Either way, Kun looks at him for as long as he dares to keep his eyes off the road, and Ten sees an expression he doesn't recognise cross his face before Kun turns away, eyes fixed firmly ahead. “Yeah,” Kun says. “Yeah, you are.”

Opinion: Okay, I’m just going to say it — this fic made me feral in the most lowkey way possible.

It’s slow burn, yes, but not in a boring way. It’s the kind where you’re reading and you keep thinking, “oh they are so stupid” (affectionate), because everything is right there. Every joke feels like it’s hiding something. Every slightly-too-long look feels intentional. The tension isn’t loud, it just sits there and simmers.

And the road trip setting? Evil. In the best way. You take two people who already have years of history, stick them in a car together for hours with no distractions, and just let them marinate in their own unresolved feelings. No members around. No schedules to hide behind. Just silence, scenery, and vibes that are getting progressively more intense.

What I love most is that nothing feels forced. The emotional progression makes sense. It builds in a way that feels natural to them, not just convenient for the plot. So when things start shifting, you’re not shocked — you’re just like, “yeah. This was coming.”

It’s messy, it’s tender, it’s frustrating in that delicious way, and it absolutely earns its payoff.

Not into wayv just nosy with a lot of weishen mutuals but what exactly is up with kunten? I saw people mentioning their divorce era seriously around a year (or a lot more lol idk time gets weird for me) ago but also it seems to be agreed upon that they’re very close

lmao 😭 that's the question you and me and everyone is asking... kunten had a really bad really long divorce era which i kinda think was triggered by the pandemic cause that's around the time they started drifting apart from 2020 to 2022ish. ten also spent the majority of 2021 locked up in confinement in china alone while the rest of wayv was stuck in korea so that didn't help. coincidentally what seemed to have kicked in their reconciliation at least publicly was l*cas leaving the group officially.

we don't get a lot of answers when it comes to kunten cause they are both incredibly cagey about their relationship. like they are aware of how popular their ship is but every time we get fanservice fodder it's like pulling teeth. kun is super protective of ten too - but he almost never shows it outwardly. it's mostly acts of service. and as for ten as far as i'm concerned he is embarrassed of the effect kun has on him which is why he keeps it close to his chest. it's mostly just teasing and ribbing him how ten shows his affection for kun.

anyway.... basically kun and ten are the two eldest wayv members so that automatically puts them into the mother and father fanservice ship which they fulfill contractually but don't care enough to actually play it up for the fans. it's mostly the rest of wayv actively conducting them to do that bit - which i'm just spitballing here but to me it's almost like the rest of wayv know how much they care for each other and give them this out to allow them to have some way to show affection in public while having the excuse of fanservice.
