NEW FIC ALERT!! Check out the full story here on Ao3!!
Yuui was the first to admit that sometimes, the way their magic tied them so closely together was a pain. Especially given that his twin lacked any sort of instinct for self-preservation and had an unhealthy amount of curiosity.
Yuui had never broken a bone—but he knew what it felt like to break his ankle because Fai had fallen while getting into trouble, and his pain had shot right through their bond and simulated the feeling in his own ankle.
Similarly… Yuui would be the first to tell you that sometimes having that bond with his twin was… interesting to say the least. He had been feeling his brother’s thoughts, fears, pain, happiness and pleasure through their bond for as long as he remembered.
Most of the time, he didn’t even notice it—not unless Fai was feeling stronger sensations or emotions than usual, at least.
The first time Kurogane had kissed Fai, Yuui didn’t need to be standing right next to him to know it happened. He felt the way Fai’s heart rate had started to rise—how heat had pooled in his stomach and his mind had raced, how Kurogane’s lips were warm and insistent, but gentle.
It was the same the first time that Kurogane had kissed Yuui—waiting until he was ready and approached the man first. They had been in the bath then. Sitting next to one another and chuckling softly as they watched Fai’s theatrics. Kurogane and he had looked at each other and before Yuui knew what he was doing, he had leaned into their lover—tilting his head up to give him better access as they softly kissed.
Yuui had not only felt his own heart race, his own stomach roll warmly at the contact, his own mind run ahead of him—but felt his twin’s eyes on him. On them. Watching them with a wrap of interest and mild arousal.
Yui's wish was granted. In the end, before the world closed in on them, a soul entered an empty, dying body. And as the magic and life drained from one twin, the other lived. Kurogane didn't know that the Fai he was pulling from the dead world was the twin who died ages ago-- granted new life by his brother's dying magics. He didn't know that Yui was gone, in the end. It had always been Fai to him.
It took me a few reads but I just realized that you're talking about Celes to Nihon and not Valeria to Celes and why are you doing this to me?
The soul is an odd sort of thing. The Valley of Sinners was even odder. Magic is a part of life, even in worlds where it is unknown life itself is seeped in magic. From the earth to the air to the burning light within each person there is magic nestled deep inside. It is a universal truth. So, when magic is snuffed out, pushed down and locked away and missing, odd things happen.
Like a body dying for the price of a wish but the soul remaining, solely through the wish of another. Fai was dead, he would never be returned to his body or any false body that could hope to be created. This in itself was odd, but what was stranger still, at least to Fai, was that as he died and listen to this shadowed man speak to his brother his desire for life thrived. He'd thrown it away, all for the sake of Yuui, but now he wished for it, needed it. Because it was hurting his dear brother and this man, this monster in shadows, was using that against him, lying to Yuui and cursing him.
Fai clung to Yuui, unknown and unseen. It was the closest he could get to life and he hoped his brother, in his heart of hearts, knew he was not as alone as he seemed.
Yuui called himself Fai, a futile attempt to keep Fai alive. Fai didn't mind, per say, but sometimes he would say Yuui's name out loud to himself for hours on end so that at least one of the would remember the sound of the name. When the king betrayed Yuui Fai wept in sadness, in sympathy, and in anger.
Yuui was too kind Fai thought to himself as he watched his brother interact with the created beings and the Witch's Pawn.
Yuui wasn't going to be able to turn on them Fai realized as he watched his brother laugh and play with the children and warrior.
Yuui loved them Fai noticed as Yuui's son and daughter began to fall away from him and as he blocked out the man he loved.
All this happiness his brother was given and it was all being ripped away again by the man in shadows, by the vile sorcerer who fought to rip apart the universe. Oh if only Fai had a body, he'd rage and rip and hunt that man down. As he watched the crumbling family Fai thought back on the warrior's anger and strength. Useful weapons for sure, now honed with love until they were surely able to cut through any and all barrier and blockades. Fai liked him, the warrior was a fighter and his brother needed that, they both needed that.
Yuui was dying Fai saw with horror in his long dead heart. His soul was parting as his body failed.
For a moment in between life and death, they saw each other once more. Yuui saw him and after all this time, after the truths were laid bare, he looked at Fai with love and sadness and apologized. "I'm sorry I failed you, Fai."
When magic was taken, pushed down and locked away odd things happened. Fai was one of those odd things. "You haven't failed me at all, Yuui," he said. "We will live as one, and we will have our revenge."
The body was not dead, magic still poured form it and pulled to close the world. Fai could not stop Yuui's soul from leaving, but between the warrior and Fai's own soul they stopped his body from dying. It was an unnatural thing, something that never should have happened. Fai was Yuui now and he would do what he must.
While the warrior -- no, while Kurogane slept Fai pondered what to do. They had all lost so much already Fai could not take Yuui from them as well. He didn't tell them, kept his words kind and found it was easy to step into the role of family member.
He thought, perhaps, he had been a part of this family himself.
He never told them and sometime she almost forgot that this was not actually the life he'd led all those years. Fai and Yuui had been very similar people, Yuui a little kinder, Fai a little more ruthless, but between Yuui's early lies and Fai's own love for these people it didn't matter much.
Yuui had loved Kurogane and Fai also loved him just the same. Sometimes Fai thought Kurogane might know, with the way he looked at Fai, but there was no way, Fai and Yuui were Fai and Yuui and not even the greatest magician in the worlds could probably tell what had happened between them.

[Text - (765): You made out with both twins? Ten points to you!]
[Mod note - I won't say no to Kurogane + Flourite twins requests/suggestions now and then, but I'd still like to keep this blog focused on KuroFai!]
