The Crow by Kurt and Bart
i personally thought that the crow reboot was, sadly, pretty shite.
however, i do reckon it could have been good.
imo, the bare bones weren't completely terrible. i don't mind a fresh take on things—i welcome it, actually, as long as it's done well. but this wasn't. it just didn't hit the mark as it really failed to capture the essence of james o'barr's masterpiece and unfortunately the whole thing felt, honestly, almost boring.
if only they'd given us a bit more meat to sink our teeth into with the whole hell/purgatory/demon angle; shown us more of a time-skip montage with eric and shelly's relationship (it felt much too rushed for me to care in the way i wanted/needed to); if they'd managed to get the right mix of vibes... bc what we ended up with was just a bit off, like they kinda overshot and everything felt simultaneously too much yet not nearly enough, somehow.
overall, it just didn't manage to execute the majority of aspects well enough to pull off a decent version.
maybe a different director could have done better with the material? or maybe too much was scrapped in the edit and ruined what might have been? or maybe the adapted story just wasn't strong enough to begin with? who knows.
you know what i do know, tho?
that they managed to get one thing very, VERY right:
THEY LOOKED 100% SHIT HOT OMFG
