Keeping up with the Pevensies: Thinking with portals
Yes, it’s another “Narnia comes to England” AU. No I don’t care. (The children are not present here, this is just setup)
Some time after LWW but before PC, the Pevensies are at their respective schools. They get the news that a portal has opened up in Hyde Park and that Narnia has been discovered on the other side.
Luckily they’ve only got a few days of school left so they meet up when they get home and plan how they’re going to get to the portal. They decide to leave half an hour after their mother goes to work, that way she doesn’t come back and see them sneaking off.
They get to the park and get the attention of one of the Narnians guarding the portal.
The guard sends someone to get Orieus (the captain of the guard), who has taken over all military and security operations. He gets them into proper attire and hardly even seems phased by their apparent youth.
They go before the Prime Minister and present themselves as the Kings and Queens of Narnia. Churchill is understandably thrown by their ages but hides it well.
They begin serious negotiations, led mostly by Edmund and Susan, and get a lot done very quickly.
By the end of the day, relations between the two countries are stable enough that war is no longer a large worry. To celebrate, Churchill sets up a banquet/ball thing for that weekend.
After the Pevensies visit the Narnian camp and start getting the story of how they disappeared out, they decide that they can’t put off calling their mother any longer. It’s ten o’clock at night.
They agree unanimously that Edmund “Silvertongue” should do the talking. He manages to calm her down enough to explain but gets quite the earful until then.
She believes their story and understands why they had to leave, but she rips them a new one about not telling her where they were going. She allows them to stay out and do what they need to do because they’re sort of adults, on one condition. They need to call her every night so she knows where they are and can make sure they’re okay.
Negotiations continue throughout the week. Narnia and England exchange ambassadors and historians and the like, and each helps the other start diplomatic discussions with other countries of their worlds.
Finally, the weekend arrives. They go to the ball, socialize, judge people’s outfits, and pretend they actually want to be there. About halfway through the event, the doors open and a huge lion steps into the room.
The English assume it’s just another Narnian animal and watch in mild apprehension. The Narnians know exactly who He is and all of them kneel.
The English are now unsure of what to do because the Kings and Queens are kneeling to this lion.
Aslan walks to the Pevensies and stops in front of them. He declares that they will be returned to how they were when they left Narnia. He roars and they rise as fully grown adults.
To be continued
